Together with the Harvesting Health Project Team,we joined Discovery Uganda, the annual race organized by world champion Jacob Kiplimo. The event provided a strong platform for identifying and nurturing athletic talent and featured a 21km trail race, children’s races, a junior 8km race, and a senior 10km race, with thousands of children also taking part in a 2km run.

The event ended successfully with the Harvesting Health showcasing sustainable farming practices, promoting good nutrition through cooking demonstrations, advocating healthy lifestyles through drama, and conducting a medical camp with health screenings. The involvement of CBFs, VHTs, and clinical professionals strengthened community engagement and reinforced our commitment to healthy communities and talent development.

One of the key focuses of September’s funder visit with was exploring how sustainable practices and strengthen each other in everyday life. The field visits offered a firsthand look at this connection in practice.

🥬 In Kapchorwa’s West Division, the group visited a garden where nutrient-rich crops like orange-fleshed sweet potatoes are grown using terrain-adapted techniques. The garden, managed by an HH village health team member, supports four local care groups.

🥗 In Kwanyiy, the visiting team joined a care group for a cooking demonstration where an enriched porridge was prepared with locally grown, nutrient-dense ingredients. The team also had a sneak peek at a recipe book in development, designed to be accessible and help make nutritious meals with the foods that communities already produce.

In Harvesting Health, progress on the ground means building lasting links between what communities grow and what they eat, ensuring that good nutrition starts from the soil and extends to homes and tables.
