A powerful moment during the visit of Madam Jenny from We Are Cohere

Our girls proudly demonstrated the process of manufacturing school chalks — a project creating opportunities for refugee girls while supporting schools in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement.

Together, we continue building impact through education, empowerment, and community action

Bright YEACE Foundation Statement on the Humanitarian Situation in Uvira and Ruzizi Plain

We have taken note of the call for urgent humanitarian action shared by CAPRIDIS regarding the situation in Uvira and the Ruzizi Plain.

We are deeply concerned by the conditions faced by women, girls, children, the elderly, and injured civilians who urgently need food, healthcare, shelter, and protection.

As a refugee-led, girl-centered organization, Bright YEACE Foundation stands in solidarity with affected communities and all organizations responding to this crisis.

We support coordinated humanitarian efforts through trusted platforms such as COHERE to ensure timely and responsible assistance.

We call on partners and donors to act swiftly to protect civilians, save lives, and restore dignity.

We were honored to host a special visit from a member of , Ms. Jenny, last Friday.
During her visit, we had the opportunity to share the progress of our school chalk production project and highlight the impact it is creating within the community—especially in providing opportunities for young refugee girls.

Since the launch of this initiative in 2025, we have successfully supported 10 schools in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement on four different occasions. This reflects the growing importance of this project in improving access to basic learning materials while empowering young women.

We also discussed future collaboration opportunities to further strengthen and expand this community-driven initiative.

Together, we continue building solutions that create impact, dignity, and opportunity.

As part of our commitment to community development and economic empowerment, we recently conducted a field visit to our fish farming activities in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement.

This initiative aims to:
1. strengthen food security
2. create sustainable income opportunities
3. promote locally driven solutions adapted to the refugee and host community context

Fish farming represents an innovative and accessible approach, enabling community members to build livelihoods while improving household nutrition.

Through these efforts, we continue to support initiatives that combine social impact, resilience, and economic empowerment.

We sincerely appreciate the dedication and hard work of all community members involved in this activity.

Together, we are building sustainable solutions for our community.

Bright YEACE Foundation successfully carried out a school chalk distribution to 6 schools within Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, providing essential teaching materials to support classroom learning.

Schools supported:
• Nteziryayo Primary School
• Kyempango Primary School
• Kikurura Primary School
• St Paul Primary School
• Ntenungi Secondary School
• Rwamwanja Secondary School

Each school received 1 carton of chalk (20 boxes × 150 pieces).

This initiative is part of our Rwamwanja School Chalk Project, where chalk is produced locally by young refugee girls
— creating both educational impact and livelihood opportunities.

We prioritized schools with limited access to teaching materials, while also taking a step forward in our vision to support all schools in the settlement.

Impact:
1. Improved classroom learning conditions
2. Supported teachers with essential materials
3. Empowered young refugee women through local production
4. Strengthened community-led solutions

Our vision:
To expand this initiative and reach more schools while increasing production and creating more opportunities for refugee youth.

Special thanks to for supporting transportation and to all education partners for their collaboration.

our organization is now ready for the distribution of school chalk to five schools in the community. This activity will take place on Thursday, 12 March 2026, with transportation support from

As part of our community support initiative, Bright YEACE Foundation will distribute school chalk to the following schools:
• Nteziryayo Primary School
• Kyempango Primary School
• Kikurura Primary School
• St Paul Primary School
• Ntenungi Secondary School

These schools previously received our support last year as part of our assistance to 10 schools in February 2025.

Our decision to support these schools again is based on several considerations:
• they do not receive sufficient government support in essential teaching materials;
• the demand for school chalk remains consistently high to ensure continuity in classroom learning;
• due to our still limited financial resources, we focus our support where the need is regular in order to ensure a concrete and sustainable educational impact.

Each school will receive one carton of school chalk containing 20 boxes, and each box contains 150 pieces of chalk. This production has been carried out locally through our Rwamwanja School Chalk initiative, led by young refugee girls, and financed through the modest income generated by this community activity.

Vision and call for collaboration

While this selection reflects our current capacity, our long-term vision is to progressively expand this support and reach more schools within both refugee and host communities in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement.

We remain open to partnerships with organizations and institutions supporting education and access to teaching materials in order to strengthen the impact of this community-led initiative.

We sincerely thank NRC for facilitating the transportation and appreciate the continued collaboration with all education sector partners.

We are preparing a fish farming pond that will support sustainable livelihoods for refugee youth and the host community. This initiative is part of our vision to strengthen economic empowerment, food security, and practical skills development.

Through this project, young people — especially refugee girls — gain hands-on experience, create income opportunities, and contribute to community resilience.

Every step we take reflects our commitment to building local, sustainable, and community-led solutions for a better future.

In Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, refugee girls are producing school chalk with skill, determination, and hope.
Through the Rwamwanja School Chalk initiative, they are not only creating learning materials — they are building independence, supporting education, and inspiring their community.

Every piece of chalk used in classrooms carries a story of resilience and dignity for children in both refugee and host communities.

We call on national and international partners, NGOs, and supporters to stand with refugee-led initiatives that transform education and empower girls. Together, we can expand this impact and create more opportunities where they are needed most.

Supporting education means investing in peace and the future.
