Proposal for Sewing Skills Training and Sewing Machine Fundraising Project at God’s Care School

Greetings, dear friends, partners, and supporters.
My name is Edward Lukwaya. I was born and raised in a humble village by my mother, Florence, a dedicated seamstress and tailor. Through her sewing work, she was able to provide food, clothing, and education for our family despite many challenges. Watching my mother use her skills to transform our lives taught me the value of vocational training and self-reliance.
Inspired by her example, I am proposing the introduction of sewing lessons and practical tailoring training at God’s Care School. This initiative aims to equip vulnerable children with hands-on skills that can help them earn a living, become self-sufficient, and build a brighter future.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND

Many of the children at God’s Care School come from vulnerable families and have limited access to vocational skills training. While academic education is important, practical skills are equally valuable in preparing young people for life beyond the classroom and thus leads to easy creation of jobs.

Sewing is a skill that can be learned at a young age and can create opportunities for income generation, entrepreneurship, and employment. By introducing sewing training, we will empower our learners with skills they can use throughout their lives. In holidays we can also host programs for orphans, mature entry mainly for widow mothers.

PROJECT GOAL
To establish a sewing and tailoring training program at God’s Care School that provides practical vocational education for vulnerable children and youth.
Objectives
1. Provide hands-on sewing and tailoring lessons for students.
2. Develop practical vocational skills that can lead to future employment or self-employment.
3. Promote creativity, confidence, and self-reliance among learners.
4. Create opportunities for students to produce school uniforms, clothing, and other useful items.
5. Improve the long-term economic prospects of vulnerable children and their families.
PROJECT NEEDS
To successfully launch this program, we seek support to purchase sewing machines for training purposes.
BUDGET
Item Quantity Unit Cost Total Cost
Sewing Machines 15 $150 $2,250
Total Required 15 $2,250
Each sewing machine costs $150.
Dear friend you can choose to sponsor:
• One sewing machine – $150
• Two sewing machines – $300
• Five sewing machines – $750
• Fifteen sewing machines (full project) – $2,250
EXPECTED IMPACT
With adequate sewing machines and training materials, God’s Care School will be able to:
• Train dozens of vulnerable children each year.
• Equip learners with practical income-generating skills.
• Foster independence and entrepreneurship.
• Reduce future unemployment among youth.
• Provide a pathway towards economic empowerment for disadvantaged families.

SUSTAINABILITY

The sewing program will continue beyond the initial purchase of machines. Students will use the equipment for ongoing training, and future sewing projects may generate modest income to support maintenance, purchase materials, and expand the program.

APPEAL FOR SUPPORT

We respectfully invite individuals, churches, organizations, businesses, and friends of God’s Care School to partner with us in this life-changing initiative. Your contribution, whether large or small, will help provide vulnerable children with skills that can transform their futures.
A single sewing machine costing $150 can become a tool of hope, dignity, and opportunity for many young learners.
Thank you for considering this request and for investing in the lives of vulnerable children. Together, we can equip them with practical skills that will serve them for years to come.
Sincerely,

Edward Lukwaya
God’s Care SchoolProject Coordinator.

🌽 Let’s Talk Maize! 🌽

Here in many parts of Africa, maize is more than just a crop — it’s a way of life. From pap, mielie meal, roasted maize on the street, to animal feed and many traditional dishes, maize feeds millions of families every day.

It got me thinking about my friends in the United States 🇺🇸…What do you call maize in your country? Do you mostly say corn? And what types of maize do you have there? 🌽
I’m also curious about when you plant and harvest and the products you make from it.

FIRST SEASON!!
Back to my home Uganda we always start planting between March – April Growing period: April – June
Harvest: June – July
This season follows the long rains, which are the most reliable in many parts of the country.

SECOND SEASON!!
Planting: August – September
Growing period: September – November
Harvest: November – December
This crop depends on the short rains.

When I look at the beautiful clouds and the shining sun, I’m reminded of how amazing God’s creation is. The sky is like a canvas painted by His hand, showing His power, beauty, and love. Every sunrise is a gentle reminder that God’s mercy is new each day and His light always shines over us.

Our kids planted sugar cane for a school project recently, and guess what? 🌱

Little green shoots are already pushing up through the soil slow, steady, and so full of life. It’s amazing how something that looks like just a stick in the ground can turn into something this strong.

The excitement in their faces every morning when they check on them is priceless. We seriously can’t wait to see how tall they grow!

For my American friends have your kids ever planted something for a school project? What was it? 🌽🍅🌻 I’d love to hear your stories!

We praise and thank God for the gift of life we’re enjoying at God’s care school.
