This Men’s Mental Health Month, Youth Alive Uganda calls for action not silence.
In Uganda and across the world, men face unique pressures to be “strong” and unemotional and in the end, many suffer in silence, unable to access the mental health support they desperately need.
At Youth Alive Uganda, we believe mental health is a human right for everyone, regardless of gender.
The reality:
• Depression and anxiety often go undiagnosed in men due to stigma.
• Men are less likely to seek help for emotional struggles.
• Substance use and anger are sometimes the only visible signs of deeper pain.
This month, we commit to:
Creating safe spaces for young men to talk openly.
Training peer counselors to recognize male mental health challenges.
Breaking the myth that “asking for help is weakness.”
To the fathers, brothers, sons, and friends: Your feelings matter. Your voice matters. Your well-being matters.
Let’s build a Uganda where every young man can thrive—emotionally and mentally.
Share this post to show a man in your life that it’s okay to not be okay.
