Uganda Youth and Adolescents Health Forum (UYAHF) is a youth led health rights and livelihood advocacy action group that was established in November 2011 by a group of Youth leaders and youth activists with passion in addressing human rights, health and livelihood issues of young people. UYAHF has a unique programming approach that integrates livelihood issues into health issues to give a holistic
package of safety and survival skills, information and opportunities to the young people that we serve. Our programming approach is both a rights based and needs based approach that best suites the needs and expectation of our young people. Under the Health component of our programming approach, we empower and equip young people with accurate and age appropriate sexuality education and reproductive health information. With the right information on their sexuality, young people are able to make the right choices that will lead them into either delaying or having safer sexual relations. We do all this through our regular district youth dialogues sessions and school health outreach camps and seminars with young people and other key stakeholders and policy makers. We train our members as peer educators who become community change advocates to fellow peers. Our health program also ventures into issues of health policy advocacy, maternal and child health, and gender equity issues among others. The livelihood component
Under the livelihood component, UYAHF members who have under gone our peer education training are encouraged and supported to join and undertake the entrepreneurship and skills development program. UYAHF owns an entrepreneurship and skills development workshops where young people are trained from and equipped with practical and hands on innovative and entrepreneurship skills. This program is aimed at empowering young people with self sustaining, innovative and income generation skills. At the workshop, we train young people in making products like shoes, African sandals for men and women, gladiators, bag, necklaces, belts, wallets/money pass, African wear, bangles among others. Our workshop is located in Zone 6b Muluka IV Makerere University and is entirely run by the management of Uganda Youth and Adolescents Health Forum, while our offices are located on Plot 351A Balintuma Road Nakulabye.
