When Natasha received a startup package, it got the ball rolling. She used the seed capital to rent out a small shop and equipped it with hairdressing tools which came with it.

How do we scale impact for adolescent girls?
This was the central question explored during the panel discussion “Scaling Impact for Girls: Integrated Approaches for Adolescent Girls’ Empowerment” at the 2026 Evidence to Impact Symposium in Nairobi, convened by .

Contributing to the discussion, Joweria Nakityo Jamira, Mentor and Youth Advocate from Uganda under the , highlighted that transformation is possible when young women are given safe spaces to connect with peers and openly discuss the issues affecting them. She emphasized that girls thrive when they have voice and agency, and are actively included in shaping solutions rather than being treated only as end users of programmes.

Reflecting on her journey, she said, “As a young woman and a mentor, I have gained confidence and developed strong facilitation skills, and that is why I am here in this room speaking to you.

In resource-constrained settings, early learning remains out of reach for most families. BRAC’s play labs are proven low-cost models that provide children the right start in a safe space.

In Play Labs children are engaged in different play activities to support their physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, and language development. Parenting sessions are conducted to educate parents on child development and mother’s wellbeing. Parents and communities are further engaged through material development workshops where they participate to make materials for Play Labs.

Youth enterprises are enabling young people to break through barriers and achieve economic empowerment.

Kisekka Jeremiah’s journey reflects this reality. From navigating early life challenges to building a registered electronics business, his path has been shaped by resilience, skills, and determination.

Through the Scholars Entrepreneurship Fund (SEF) Project implemented by , he accessed opportunities that supported his business growth and strengthened his transition into vocational training and enterprise development.

Today, he runs an electronics business offering sales, repairs, and apprenticeship training, while also investing in poultry and coffee farming to build long-term stability.
