Nicole was only two years old, and little Hadijja just 8 month old when their mother passed away from heart disease, leaving their tiny hearts broken. Nicole held her baby sister close, trying to understand a world that had suddenly grown quiet and sad.

But when they came to Daiya Kids Uganda, everything began to change. Caring hands lifted them, warm smiles surrounded them, and slowly, their laughter returned. Nicole found comfort in play, and baby Hadijja blossomed with the love she received.

With patience, kindness, and family around them, the two little girls found their smiles again—proof that even after deep loss, love can bring back light.

As is the Ugandan school practice, pupils sit three examinations each term:
• Beginning‑of‑Term Exam
• Mid‑Term Exam
• End‑of‑Term Exam

These exams help us track each learner’s understanding, identify areas needing improvement, and provide timely academic support.

Alongside the core subjects, our learners have also been developing important computer and digital literacy skills. We are grateful for the support received through the ProFuturo digital learning programme in partnership with Help Rising Stars Spain . This initiative is strengthening our children’s confidence in using technology, which is an essential skill in today’s world.

From the slums of Kampala to the classroom—hope is taking root.

Today, 18 incredible students are thriving in secondary school on full scholarships. Each one of them once faced the harsh realities of life on the streets and in the slums, but now they sit in classrooms with dignity, purpose, and a future they can believe in.

Another 37 young children have gained access to a boarding school that provides not just education, but the full foundation every child deserves: shelter, clothing, medical care, and nutritious meals. For many of them, this is the first time they’ve experienced stability, safety, and consistent love.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we have also received new PCs and tablets to help our learners adapt to the new education curriculum. Technology is no longer a distant dream for them—it’s now part of their daily learning.

Every smile we see reminds us that transformation is possible. And there is still room for more smiles.

Ugandan schools usually open on 2 February, but due to this year’s elections, the opening date has been moved to 10 February.

Even with the delay, we still have a wonderful opportunity to see our children smile as they reunite with their friends and classmates.

If you’d like to help create even more smiles, please reach out to us through our website. We’d be delighted to hear from you!

Help Us Bring Children Back to School in 2026.

In many Ugandan communities, families survive on less than 100 euros per month, often raising up to seven children. For most, school fees are an impossible dream.

Too many children grow up saying “When I go to school, I will become…” — but by the age of 16, many find themselves facing adulthood without education, opportunities, or hope.

Daiya Kids Uganda is committed to changing this story.
We walk with vulnerable children, helping them turn dreams into futures through education, care, and empowerment.
