NEW ACID ATTACK CASE | STAND WITH ADRINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today, our hearts are heavy as we respond to yet another devastating acid attack in Uganda.
Meet Akankunda Adrine, a 15-year-old girl (born in April 2010) from Kanyambiriri II Cell, Ndangaro Parish, Rutoto Sub-county, Rubirizi District. At the time of the attack, Adrine was a Senior One student with dreams of completing her education and building a brighter future.
According to the information available, Adrine had gone to seek school fees support from her uncle's home when unknown assailants attacked her and poured acid on her, leaving her with severe burns and life-changing injuries.
Adrine is now receiving treatment at Kiruddu National Referral Hospital, where she is courageously fighting for her recovery.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the compassionate community members and state officials who came together to support her transportation from Rubirizi District to Kiruddu National Referral Hospital, making it possible for her to access urgent specialized medical care. Your generosity and quick response made a significant difference during this critical time.
As Adrine begins her long road to recovery, she will need ongoing medical treatment, reconstructive surgeries, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, and educational support to help her rebuild her life.
No child should ever have to endure such horrific violence while simply pursuing an education.
At CERESAV, we stand in solidarity with Adrine and all survivors of acid violence. We call upon the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this attack, identify those responsible, and ensure justice is served.
