Ceresav

Ceresav Our motto of ‘Unveiling the Scars’ reflects our mission of helping survivors live confidently and without shame.

The Center for Rehabilitation of Survivors of Acid and Burns Violence was established in 2012 to address effects of acid attacks and support survivors rebuild their lives through medical care, rehabilitation, education of their children and advocacy. The Center for Rehabilitation of Survivors of Acid and Burns Violence (CERESAV) is a charitable non-government organization that was established in 2

012 to address acid violence in Uganda. We work to change existing legislation on the sale and distribution of acid, raise awareness of acid violence, and provide psychosocial and medical support to acid violence survivors. It also reflects our belief that it is only when acid violence survivors display their physical and psychological wounds that society is confronted with the reality of acid violence and motivated to act against it.

Lawrence Technological University hosted our very own Hanifa Nakiryowa, Hanifa Nakiryowa as this year’s guest presenter for their annual Hotelling lecture series where she highlighted actionable steps we can all take to present acid attack violence in our communities.
Looking forward to continued partnership with LTU!

An important and timely examination of interpersonal, gender-based violence at this year's Harold Hotelling Memorial Lecture, hosted by the LTU College of Arts and Sciences on Thursday, Nov. 6.

We were honored this year to welcome Hanifa Nakiryowi, a Ugandan acid attack survivor and founder of the Kampala-based Ceresav, who spoke on the causes of acid violence and actionable steps communities and individuals can take to prevent future attacks.

What a powerful day!

Our members from Ceresav recently participated in a digital business literacy and mindset change program.

This incredible training was coordinated by the Stanbic IBTC Stanbic Business Incubator and supported by the Mastercard Foundation. This initiative is more than just a training session; it's a vital step towards inclusion, helping survivors gain a sense of belonging and providing them with the skills they need to reintegrate economically into their communities.

We're so grateful for the opportunity to equip our survivors with the tools for a brighter future!

CERESAV recently teamed up with the Network for Active Citizens and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) for a crucial cleanup initiative in the Nakawa Giza Giza community. Beyond tidying up the neighborhood, the activity was a powerful way to advocate for the government to review and improve Kampala's waste management ordinance, while also championing the inclusion and social integration of acid attack survivors.

We are also still raising funds for our 16 Days of Activism campaign! We invite our CERESAV family and partners to support this vital cause by donating at https://gofund.me/601e7a25.

✨ Celebrating Philanthropy Week with Purpose and Action✨

Last week it was the Philanthropy Week, and CERESAV was proud to stand alongside communities, partners, and changemakers who believe in creating a world free from acid and burn violence. 💪💛

We engaged in powerful conversations, built strategic partnerships, and shared our vision of justice, dignity, and healing for survivors. Every handshake, every connection, and every shared story was a step towards a future where survivors are empowered, supported, and never forgotten.

Our ongoing GoFundMe campaign is at the heart of this movement. Together, we are raising $15,000 to fuel the 16 Days of Activism activities, from survivor healing spaces to nationwide awareness walks. 🚶🏾‍♀️📢

💡 Every act of giving, no matter the size, changes lives. Let’s make this memorable Philanthropy Week count for hundreds of many survivors who are turning pain into power.

Thank you CivSource Africa Femme Forte Uganda Uganda National NGO Forum and many other partners that made it possible for the philanthropy week to be a success.
