May 28th is not just a day we celebrate. To mark Menstrual Hygiene Day, we hosted a Color Fun Activity under the powerful theme: "Together for a period friendly world."

While the colors flew, the real transformation happened during our inclusive menstrual health training sessions. We were thrilled to see women and girls joined by men and boys — because creating a supportive environment requires everyone’s voice.

Why are these trainings and information sessions so vital?

Education is the strongest tool to break the silence and shame surrounding menstruation. By speaking openly, we replace myths with facts.

This knowledge allows girls and women to manage their cycles with confidence and dignity, ensuring that a natural biological process never hinders their education.

When men and boys are included, the conversation shifts from a "women's issue" to a community priority. Their involvement is key to building a truly period-friendly world where every girl feels supported.

Thank you to everyone who showed up in color to support menstrual health for all!

No two women experience their period the same way, and that is something worth saying out loud.

Your experience is not an exaggeration. It is not weakness. It is yours.

On this World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we recommit to breaking the barriers that period poverty and stigma create for girls and women across Uganda.

Most girls meet their first period alone. No warning. No words for what’s happening. Just silence, and the feeling that this is something to hide.

That silence doesn’t protect anyone. It just keeps the shame alive.

500 million women and girls around the world still lack what they need to manage their periods safely and with dignity. It all starts with talking.

We asked members of our team to share their experiences with periods, the stories they’ve heard growing up, and some facts they believe more people need to know. Here’s what they had to say.

From a dream to a shop in Bulyasi.

Nabatongole Berna joined the Gejja Women Saving Group from day one with little capital but a clear vision. Through consistent saving, financial training, and smart use of group loans, she built the confidence and the capital to start her own retail business.

Today her shop is growing, her household is stable, and her story is proof that when women have access and support, they rise.

Berna is one of our pioneers. And we couldn’t be prouder.

Representing SafeGirl, our co-founder Faith Catherine Nakayemba is in Johannesburg this week at the African Menstrual Product Standards & Market Development Forum.

The forum brings together organizations, manufacturers, and standards agencies from across the continent to shape regional market standards for menstrual products.

Faith joined a panel discussion on what gives manufacturers the confidence to invest and comply with standards, and the real cost of fragmented regulations across markets.

When standards are clear, consistent, and regionally aligned, more manufacturers can commit, more products can meet quality benchmarks, and more girls and women gain access to safe, affordable menstrual health solutions.

Proud to have SafeGirl’s voice at this table.

Over the weekend, our Executive Director, (Marjorie), had the opportunity to speak to students and young professionals on a topic that continues to shape the future of leadership and impact:

“From Purpose to Power: Building Self-Leadership, Professional Identity & Workplace Resilience.”

Through honest storytelling, practical lessons, and real-life experiences, the session challenged young people to intentionally build who they are becoming — not just professionally, but personally.

From self-leadership and resilience to navigating today’s changing workplace realities, the conversation reminded us that growth starts with the choices we make every day.

At .women.foundation, we believe empowering young people with mindset, confidence, and leadership skills is just as important as providing opportunities.

Thank you Kampala International University and to everyone who attended, engaged, asked questions, and shared their stories. The future belongs to young people who are willing to lead themselves before leading others.

“Your life will not change by chance… it will change by choice.”
