We had a productive meeting with Mr Samson Ombogo, General Manager of Fairway Hotel , to explore opportunities for collaboration in promoting animal welfare, ethical egg sourcing, and sustainability within the hospitality sector.

We were encouraged by the positive response and openness to working together toward more responsible and humane food systems.

As one of Uganda’s leading and oldest hotels, Fairway has an important opportunity to demonstrate leadership in sustainable and ethical hospitality.

We look forward to turning this conversation into meaningful action and building a partnership that creates a better future for animals, people, and our planet. 🌍💚

A Life in a Cage 🐔

We visited this farm expecting to see chickens. What we witnessed left us devastated. 💔

Hens with feathers missing, living in dirty, overcrowded cages, squeezed together with barely enough space to move. These are sentient animals spending their lives in conditions no animal should have to endure.

This is why cage-free matters. 🐔

We believe Africa’s food systems can grow without sacrificing animal welfare. We are calling on farmers, businesses, supermarkets, hotels, consumers and policymakers to support a transition to cage-free egg production.

Every hen deserves space to move, stretch, perch and live with dignity.

It’s time to from cages!

🐔 Why not go cage-free?

Our visit to a battery-cage farm in Wakiso showed us the dire conditions many hens still endure.

We’re helping farmers transition to cage-free systems, connect to better markets, and calling on government to certify cage-free farmers.

Better lives for hens. Better opportunities for farmers.

🐔➡️🌱 From Hens to Plants?

Today we visited Konya Chicken Farm to continue an important conversation about animal welfare and sustainable agriculture.

We discussed why it’s time to move beyond battery cages—where hens are unable to express natural behaviours, often experience chronic stress, injuries, and poor welfare—and explored the benefits of cage-free farming.

We also shared the inspiring story of Greytom Farm in South Africa, which successfully transitioned from pigs to plants. Their experience shows that crop farming can improve soil health, reduce environmental impacts, strengthen climate resilience, and tap into the growing demand for plant-based foods.

The farm manager expressed genuine concern about the conditions hens live in, making this an encouraging and thoughtful discussion.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but every conversation is a step forward.

Who knows? One day we may be celebrating another inspiring transformation—from hens to plants. 🌱💚

It’s always inspiring to engage young minds as we explore the benefits of plant-based diets through our Vegan School Lunch Campaign.

While school administrators ultimately decide what is served, introducing children to plant-based foods and helping them understand their benefits makes the transition much easier. When children embrace plant-based eating, schools are more likely to adopt and sustain these healthy, compassionate meal options.
