Today, as we celebrate mothers, let’s also reflect on animal mothers.

A mother cow produces milk for her baby, just like human mothers do for theirs. Yet many calves are separated from their mothers shortly after birth so humans can take the milk meant for them.

Behind every glass of milk is often a mother longing to feed her child.

Motherhood, love, grief, and bonding are not limited to humans.

Children are the true champions of a more compassionate and cruelty-free world.

It is always inspiring to hear their reflections after learning about veganism, the impact of food choices, and the importance of kindness toward animals.

Just like this young aspiring chef, who shared her excitement about exploring more plant-based dishes in the future. Stories like hers remind us why this work matters.

Our Vegan School Lunch Campaign continues to create meaningful change for animals, students, and the future of food in Uganda.

Through restaurant partnerships and community engagement, Uganda-based partners played a vital role in amplifying the campaign’s impact.

Our message goes to the Ghetto. In Kampala, a significant portion of the city lives in informal settlements—around 50–60% of residents live in slum-like, high-density neighbourhoods often referred to locally as the ghetto.

Lots of street food in Kampala city comes from the ghetto. We all love street food, but most options today are heavy in meat and fried fare that aren’t always the best for our health or the environment.

What if there were more vegan street food options? More plant-based choices on the streets would mean healthier meals for everyday people, opportunity for local vendors to attract new customers, and reduced pressure on our environment and our animals.

We’ve already taken action:
• We trained culinary students from AFFCAD on how to prepare tasty, affordable vegan recipes.
• We also trained street food vendors on how to add compelling vegan offerings to their menus.

Together, we can veganize Uganda—for animals, for improved health, and for a cleaner environment. Let’s make vegan street food deliciously accessible across Kampala and beyond.
