Mapping for Peace and Smarter WASH Planning;π§
Precision in planning starts with understanding your terrain, and there is no one better to map it than the communities who live there.
, in partnership with Eng. Josef Buchner, a consultant from Misereor (our long-term partner), just concluded a week-long participatory exercise in District to empower communities to identify their own natural resources, hazards, and WASH needs and ensure that interventions respond directly to what matters most to them.
Bringing together peace ambassadors from Magoro ( ) and Kawach and Loreng ( ), the process united and communities in a moment of collaboration and charted water sources, grazing lands, risk zones, and priority needs, intending to turn local knowledge into a shared planning tool.
By the end of the week, participants had produced detailed maps, which were validated by the District officials who appreciated CIDIβs approach, recommending similar initiatives elsewhere.
believes that the community-generated maps will guide targeted interventions, support district planning, and promote conflict-sensitive resource management.
