Last week we facilitated a family planning training involving 56 incredible women from the AFRIpads factory team in Masaka.

The session focused on equipping participants with knowledge and practical skills to understand, communicate and make informed decisions about family spacing and planned family size. We discussed how these choices have both financial and health implications for parents and children, impacting wellbeing, stability and future goals.

During the training, the participants:
✅ Defined family planning and contraception
✅ Explored different contraceptive methods, how they work, their benefits and side effects
✅ Debunked common misconceptions surrounding contraception
✅ Shared experiences, questions and reflections

By the end of the session, participants felt more confident in making reproductive health decisions that best fit their lives and families 🙌 Thank you to AFRIpads and the participants for such a productive and impactful session!

Menstruation can affect both physical and emotional well-being, often holding girls back from participating in sports. To help break down these barriers, together with FUBA, we conducted a menstrual health education program for 70 girls and boys at Kazo Mixed Primary School in central Uganda.

By raising awareness about menstrual hygiene management and providing safe, comfortable reusable menstrual products, we aimed to empower girls to stay active in sports and ensure that no one is sidelined by menstruation.

Let’s make sure periods never limit girls’ potential 💪

The against Gender-Based Violence are underway and we are uniting to call for a future free from violence against women and girls.

We believe that in the fight to end GBV. Educating girls about menstrual health management isn’t just about hygiene—it’s about empowerment, breaking taboos and fostering equality.

GBV can take many forms, both physical and psychological. It can include restricting access to accurate health information, safe sanitation and basic services. Misconceptions and stigma about menstruation can be associated with GBV, while the cost of menstrual products can cause conflict in households as men often control financial decisions.

🎯 This , WoMena is on a mission to educate school girls (and boys!) about menstrual health management, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to feel confident and in control of their own bodies.

We recently facilitated a Training of Trainers session with Unidos Projects in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, southwestern Uganda, to address menstrual hygiene management (MHM) challenges and improve access to MHM products for women and girls.

MHM in refugee settlements faces significant barriers, including limited access to affordable and sustainable menstrual products, poor water and sanitation facilities, cultural stigmas, and a lack of menstrual health education. These challenges hinder women and girls' ability to manage their periods with dignity and privacy.

Through the training, we equipped community facilitators with knowledge and skills to educate and distribute menstrual cups to girls and women in the settlement. We covered proper use, cleaning and storage of menstrual cups, addressed myths and misconceptions, and discussed why the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

✨ The next step for WoMena is changing livelihoods in Namayingo District! Keep an eye on our website and social media pages for updates. 💪
