The white people who used to purchase wood crafts I made supported me after my release from prison. With their assistance, I established an organization that helps reintegrate individuals after their prison terms. We also run programs that educate youths about drug use and impart basic entrepreneurial skills, such as making liquid soap. –Kyomuhozi Robert

Life in jail is far from desirable. The rooms are never clean. Two days later, we appeared before court, and the judge showed understanding. We were asked to return at a later date. In prison, if you have anything nice, it's likely to be taken away by either the guards or other inmates.–Kyomuhozi Robert

Staff members at the remand section became my friends after discovering my talent in wood carving. I had started creating artwork, which they sold and profited from. Eventually, the court ruled that the case for which I was imprisoned was invalid, and I was released.–Kyomuhozi Robert

Following my mother's passing, my grandmother raised me, and later, I moved in with my uncle, who was a carpenter. He encouraged me to learn carpentry skills. The very first art piece I crafted was a giraffe, and it sold immediately.– Kyomuhozi Robert

While on remand, I was placed in a room with people who had committed capital offenses. Life wasn't bad. We had food, better shelter, and all the necessary amenities. As long as you respected officers and fellow inmates, everything went smoothly.–Kyomuhozi Robert

After selling the first art craft, I began creating more and joined peer groups. We lived in a community where, if someone saw you with a girl, they'd assume something was going on. It was in this environment that I was falsely accused of defilement. – Kyomuhozi Robert

The girl I was accused of defiling was just a friend. One day, her mother followed her to our place and reported the incident to the police, which resulted in both of us being imprisoned. While in jail, we were assigned punishments, including making chapati for the officers.–Kyomuhozi Robert
