16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM. A COMMUNITY VOICES MURAL JAM. PAINTING OUR SPIRIT ON THE WALLS OF OUR COMMUNITY. WE ARE THE CHANGE WE SEEK. (Art is a representation of the spirit through which we humans can create legacies that inspire generations to rise) The 16 Days of Activism and 10th December Human Rights Day are celebrated globally as a reminder to defend and protect human rights. Gender-based violence poses a great risk and threat to life. The most vulnerable people faced with violence belong to marginalized communities, including women, girls, and people in slum areas. The surge of gender-based violence and violent attacks against marginalized community members in suburban/slum areas is a sign that more awareness is needed to defend and protect humanity.
This year, EAVA Artists will paint four murals in kititale a Kampala suburban area, the mural will focus on four key themes: Protection of Women and Girls from Violence, Inclusion of gender minorities, Climate Change, , and a mural illustrating the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, and 😎. These murals will serve as powerful visual platforms for community education, human rights awareness, and inspiring social change. People will have a mural tour to understand in detail the stories behind the mural. Furthermore, we will document the mural process and share it online to draw more attention and engage a wider audience. Working with community artists and area leadership.
These 16 Days of Activism will contribute to EAVA Artists’ project of “Talking City,” where we use murals and street Art as a tool to raise awareness and address the human rights challenges of our time, to generate community discussions on human rights, and how we can overcome the challenges. By bringing human rights conversations to the streets and communities, we reach a large and diverse audience, creating a unique connection between the public, the artists, and change-makers, enhancing accessibility and engagement around social justice and human rights issues.
