Preamble:
WE THE GREENS OF UGANDA:
RECALLING our history in our mother country characterized by political instability, forces of tyranny and exploitation, societies generally under or misrepresented in and by politics;
UNITED in our awareness that we depend on the Earth's vitality, diversity and beauty, and that it is our responsibility to pass them on, undiminished or even improved, to the nex
t generation and concerned for the dignity of humanity and the value of cultural heritage
RECOGNIZING our local struggle for an ecologically informed ideology clearly building and based on the Charter of the Global Greens Canberra 2001 and the Declaration of the Global Gathering of Greens at Rio in 1992;
ACKNOWLEDGING that injustice, racism, poverty, ignorance, corruption, crime and violence, armed conflict and the search for maximum short term profit are causing widespread human suffering
COMMITTED to joining together to bring forth a sustainable society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace with responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations of this country and the World;
EXERCISING our sovereign and inalienable right to determine the form of governance for our country, and having fully participated in the Constitution-making process;
NOTING we stand at a critical moment in the local and global history, a time when humanity must choose its future in an increasingly interdependent and fragile world, and any movement forward we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one Global community with a common destiny. ASSERT the need for fundamental changes in people's attitudes, values, and ways of producing and living and declaring that the new millennium provides a defining point to begin that transformation
DO HEREBY, identify ourselves as Ugandan Greens and commit ourselves as Greens with others around the World to implement the interrelated Green principles on Ecological Wisdom, Social Justice, Participatory Democracy, Nonviolence, Sustainability and Respect for Diversity in respect to creating a global partnership in support of our fulfillment and through this Constitution solemnly adopt, enact and give to ourselves and our posterity, this Constitution of the ECOLOGICAL PARTY OF UGANDA.
