Hope Shine Uganda

Hope Shine Uganda We are on mission to empower vulnerable women and children from the slums to break the cycle of poverty and become independent. Join us!

Hope Shine Uganda, formerly Teenage Mothers Outreach (TEMO), is a registered, non-profit organisation operating in Kampala’s slums. We serve girls in crisis pregnancies (teenage mothers) and women, by providing medical care, food, education and sustainable livelihood programs like vocational training programs. We create opportunities for vulnerable women and girls in the slums to break the cycle o

f poverty and THRIVE. We believes that by empowering and inspiring these women and girls to achieve their financial freedom through entrepreneurship for income generation, they will make informed decisions and to live their full God-given potential.

A medical emergency.
A slow week at the market.
A child who needs school fees.
For a woman living in poverty, any one of these can be a push backwards.

Saving helps her to have a plan. It gives her breathing room to meet a need and still stay afloat.

This is why the Hope Shine Saving Group exists. To help these women protect the financial stability and independence they work so hard to achieve.

The girls start small: learning, trying, getting it wrong, trying again. And before long, it becomes a skill they can rely on to build a life they can be proud of.

Women in our communities are often left holding everyone and everything. Pregnancies, children, grandchildren… Left to make sure everyone is housed, fed, schooled, clothed, safe and loved. Often after being abandoned or abused themselves. It is a load that is almost impossible to carry alone, and it keeps so many women trapped in poverty.

This is why Hope Shine walks with them, with food bags, mama kits, medical care, and skilling, among many other things. To lighten the load so that these women can find their way out of the cycle of poverty.

Saturday’s feeding program was one to remember.

The women praised, danced and worshipped with everything they had. The Spirit was present in a way that was impossible to miss. Reverend Simon brought it all home with a message that was relatable and grounding for us all: that without God, no amount of help will fully transform a life.

A number of ladies were moved to give their lives to Christ. 🎊. We prayed together, thankful for their salvation and over the journey ahead of them.

We had guests with us, Megan and Zey who said a quick hello to the ladies. After which they gave us a hand distributing the food bags!

We give out an average of 600 bags of food, each month, to relieve the pressure on vulnerable women and children, to find something to eat. To the donors who make this possible, thank you so much.

Baptism Sunday! Today our Esther House girls who recently gave their lives to Christ were baptized. Such a beautiful and joyful moment celebrating new life in Christ.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” - 2 Corinthians 5:17

We gather every Friday at HopeShine for fellowship. A time set aside to share in the word, pray and grow in faith together.

Yesterday was especially meaningful. Nineteen girls made the decision to give their lives to Christ!
We give thanks to God for each one of them. We believe that heaven rejoices over each one.

We’re grateful to walk alongside these young women, in meeting their practical needs, but also in nurturing their faith and hope for the future.

This is our prayer for them. Ephesians 1.17-21

‘ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power… ‘ Amen.

For many women, makeup has become part of everyday life; weddings, events, photos, and more. With this growing demand, cosmetology has also become a meaningful source of income.

That’s why, alongside hairdressing, the girls at HopeShine are learning cosmetology. Hair and makeup go hand in hand, and having both skills expands their opportunities and earning potential.

Equipping them with a wider skill set shortens the journey to self-sustenance. It gives them a stronger foundation to build a future that can support both them and their children.

We’re pretty sure this is the sweetest thing you’ll see today 🤍

The ladies from Let God’s Hope Shine spent time playing and enjoying little moments with the children and mothers, at Esther House.

Christine, a paediatric nurse from , checked in on the children’s development and milestones along the way, and shared simple tips with the mums on caring for their little ones.

Because, care for a child is care for the mother and care for the mother, is care for the child😊. The two are inseparable.

Day 3: To say it was an activity packed day would be an understatement.

The Let God’s Hope Shine team spent time with the ladies in our NL program, sharing introductions and hearing updates on the small businesses HopeShine helped set up as they transition out of nightlife work.

They shared the Word, and there was plenty of laughter throughout.

The team also distributed gifts brought from , along with food as part of the March feeding program. The ladies expressed their gratitude to the guests, for everything.

It was a warm and lovely afternoon together.

Day 3: Our guests spent time with the expectant mothers, at HopeShine.

The ladies took charge and between them, they had a pediatric nurse (Christine from Shine Pediatrics & Wellness Center) and a wealth of experience birthing and caring for babies. Christine led a session on healthy pregnancies and caring for babies once they arrive. It was practical and hands-on, including simple exercises to help ease the birthing process.

The session flowed into a Q&A, where the mamas asked honest questions and received thoughtful guidance. Some also had one-on-one time for more personal support.

Each mother received a mama kit, prenatal supplements, and food to support her through the season, all courtesy of our guests. Finally, we prayed together, over the mamas and their children.

They left feeling encouraged, supported and better prepared.

Day 3: It was pouring rain this morning in Kampala, but our guests rallied and showed up bright and early, ready to serve. 💪

Together, we distributed food to over 600 women. This was our March feeding, part of our monthly feeding program. For many vulnerable families this support helps ease the daily pressure of putting food on the table while earning so little. Especially for mothers caring for their children, they can now rest easy knowing their children will not have to forego meals.

Rain and all, it was a good day.
