A big part of what makes The Zoe House special is that both mama and baby feel cared for.

The little ones get a playful space to laugh and explore, and the mamas get the hands-free time they need to learn and grow.

We love that everyone has something to look forward to even the little ones! 💛

It’s mandazi day! ✨

Judith taught the mamas that great mandazi starts with the basics — activating baking powder in warm water, kneading soft dough, and frying at just the right heat.

It wasn’t just about cooking.
It was about patience, skill, and learning the “why” behind every step.

Progress Over Perfection❤️

Our new semester of vocational training kicked off with the very first baking class and it was a beautiful reminder of what we believe at The Zoe House.

✨ We don’t expect perfection. We celebrate progress and the willingness to keep trying. ✨

Judith, our baking instructor, taught our mammas the secrets behind making daddies (a beloved Ugandan snack!) and placed them into small groups to try it themselves.

And here’s the story most people wouldn’t want to share. Most of the batches didn’t turn out right. Some were burnt. Some crumbled. Some used too much sugar or baking powder. Four out of five groups didn’t get the results they hoped for.

But this is where the real magic happened. 💛

Instead of giving up, the mamas reflected on what went wrong, listened to feedback, and asked thoughtful questions in order to not make the same errors next time.

Because at The Zoe House, success isn’t measured by a perfect results but by the ability to try, try and try again.

We’re so proud of these young women. Their first attempt may not have been perfect, but their hearts, their effort, and their resilience tell us everything about the futures they’re building and we can’t wait to watch them grow.

The young mothers we work with have already had so much taken from them.

Many have been forced to leave school.
Some have been shunned by their families.
Almost all have faced judgment, isolation, and uncertainty about the future.

But here’s what no one can take away: skills, confidence, and community.

That’s why our Made for More program exists, to equip young mothers with practical, income-generating skills in baking, hairdressing, and business, so they can create stability for themselves and their babies 🦋

This program isn’t just about learning a skill.

It’s about restoring dignity.
Rebuilding self-belief.
And offering a real, tangible path forward.

In our Made for More program, learning often happens with a baby in tow. 👶🏾📚

Our young mothers juggle motherhood and personal growth, feeding, soothing, and changing diapers while taking notes and building new skills.

It’s not always easy to juggle. But they show up with heart, with hope, and with the quiet strength of women determined to change their stories. We show up with helping hands ready to hold as many of the babies as possible.

We’re so proud of their commitment, and honored to walk beside them on this journey.
