Empowering youth with practical life skills

During the ROM Holiday Forum 2026, Gertrude Atyero, a social worker conducted interactive talks focusing on time management, decision-making, discipline, and goal-oriented living.

These discussions enabled youth to think about their decisions, be more effective in time management, remain goal-focused, and realize how small decisions affect their lives in the long run.

This was an educational and engaging session full of open discussions, active participation, and introspection.

Earlier today, Mennonite Central Committee officials supporting the Maternal and Childcare Project had the opportunity to visit the community to witness the project's impact on vulnerable mothers and children.

The team visited beneficiaries supported beyond maternal and childcare services, with socioeconomic empowerment through business and skills training initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and household income.

Reducing TB/HIV mortality in Kampala

Under the Kampala HIV Project (KHP), ROM is currently implementing a two-day TB/HIV Mortality Surveillance Training.

This training is designed to close critical gaps by strengthening systems for timely mortality audits, accurate Medical Certification of Cause of Death (MCCoD), and rapid response to TB and HIV-related deaths.

At the end of the training, health workers from various facilities will be able to:Conduct timely and effective mortality audits, Improve the quality and accuracy of cause-of-death certification and
Strengthen monitoring, reporting, and coordinated response systems

Participants will cascade this knowledge to other health workers and community teams across all five divisions of Kampala, ensuring wider reach and sustained impact.

This is a deliberate step towards identifying modifiable factors, responding faster, and ultimately reducing preventable TB and HIV-related deaths.

We are hosting a performance review meeting bringing together Drop-In Center (DIC) teams and ROM staff to reflect on progress and strengthen service delivery for high-risk populations across Kampala.

This is aimed at reviewing key indicators such as HIV testing and PrEP uptake, linkage, retention, and reporting, while openly addressing challenges affecting performance, including follow-up gaps and service integration.
