Ba Nga Afayo Initiative Uganda

Ba Nga Afayo Initiative Uganda BaNgaAfayo! Translated? That itself would require action!

Working to bring real and lasting change to children, youth and women living in poverty through holistic multidimensional programs in education, economic development and public health. It means, “Show you care” Reason being that if it’s too much to ask that people become part of solving a problem, can they at least show they care? We aim to create a world without poverty where all children and ado

lescents have meaningful opportunities to grow and learn so that they may reach their full potential.

At Initiative Uganda, we place young people at the center as leaders and change makers not just for tomorrow, but today.

Through our programs, youth are finding their voice and taking action on issues that affect them. By creating safe spaces for open dialogue, we are helping them build confidence, resilience, and the courage to support one another.

We are seeing young people step up, influence their peers, and drive meaningful change within their communities.

Today, as we celebrate World Art Day, we are reminded that art is not just creativity it is transformation.

At , art is helping young people improve their mental health by providing a safe space to express emotions, reduce stress, and rebuild confidence.

What was once silence is now expression, and what was once doubt is now belief

Through our partnership with Faces Up Uganda, our children are gaining tools to heal, grow, and unlock their potential through creativity.

Join us in expanding this impact and transforming more lives through art.

Today, we join the world in celebrating International Special
Librarians Day. In Kayunga, our library is more than a room with books.
It is where hope quietly begins again.

Children walk in with uncertainty some unable to attend formal school, some carrying the weight of hunger and hardship.

But inside this space, they find something powerful: a chance to learn, to imagine, and to believe in a different future. Every page turned is a step away from limitation.

Every story read is a reminder that their dreams are valid. This is the impact of access to information.

Donate a book. Stand with a child who is ready to learn but needs the opportunity.

Together, we can ensure that no child is left behind.

As we celebrate 10 years of impact at Initiative Uganda, we reflect on stories like Susan’s and the many still waiting. At just 17, Susan became a mother
and was soon abandoned with no income, no skills, and no support.

The future felt impossible. Everything changed when she came to
.

Through our Fashion Design and Tailoring Program, she gained skills, mentorship, and confidence to rebuild her life. Today, Susan earns an income, supports her son, and lives with dignity and hope. Many young mothers are still waitingfor this chance.

This World Health Day, we must confront an uncomfortable truth:

Too many young lives are being shaped and sometimes shattered by alcohol. What starts as experimentation often leads to lost focus, declining mental health, and missed opportunities.

Beyond the immediate impact, alcohol use is also a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as liver disease, cardiovascular conditions, and certain cancers, threats that can follow young people long into adulthood. The cost is not just personal; it affects families, communities, and the future we are all building.

At , we are choosing a different path, one where young people are equipped with knowledge, confidence, and purpose to say no to harmful choices.

This Easter, we’re reminded of the quiet power of compassion and community.

At Ba Nga Afayo Initiative Uganda, hope is found in shared moments—in safe spaces where young people are seen, supported, and encouraged to grow.

As we reflect on this season of renewal, may we continue showing up for one another with kindness, care, and intention.

As we enter the Easter season a time of reflection, renewal, and new beginnings we are calling attention to a growing concern affecting many young people.

Behind the celebrations, alcohol abuse continues to quietly derail dreams, limit potential, and impact the future of our youth. Moments of pressure can lead to choices with long-term consequences but Easter reminds us that change is always possible.

At , we are committed to empowering young people with the mindset, skills, and support they need to make positive life choices and build a future they are proud of.

This Easter, we encourage every young person to make a life-changing decision by choosing purpose over pressure, walking away from alcohol and harmful habits, and standing strong to protect their dreams.

We also call upon parents, educators, community leaders, and partners to join us in guiding and supporting young people during this season and beyond.

🔹 Make a personal commitment to stay alcohol-free this season
🔹 Start conversations that matter within your community
🔹 Share this message to inspire and influence others

Together, we can protect futures, restore hope, and empower a generation to rise.

As we approach the Easter season, we are reminded of the power of love, hope, and renewal.

At , these values come to life every day through the children and young people we serve, many of whom face barriers to education, opportunity, and a brighter future. Yet, through community, creativity, and care, we are seeing transformation happen.

This Easter, we invite you to be part of that transformation.

Just as this season calls us to reflect and give, your support can help ensure that every child has access to learning, nourishment, and a safe space to grow.

It is shocking how much children in primary school already know about alcohol.

But what is even more concerning are the misconceptions behind that knowledge.

During our campaign in Kayunga District, we are consistently hearing beliefs from children that normalize use at a very early age.

These are not informed choices.
They are learned perceptions shaped by environment, exposure, and misinformation.

And if left unaddressed, these misconceptions can lead to lifelong consequences, including increased risk of non-communicable diseases, as highlighted by the World Health Organization, as well as school dropout, mental health challenges, and vulnerability to risky behaviors.

This is why our campaign is not just about awareness.
It is about correcting beliefs early.

With support from AstraZeneca, we are working with children and youth to:

Challenge harmful misconceptions
Provide accurate, age-appropriate information
Create safe spaces for learning and reflection

Because the earlier these beliefs are shaped, the harder they are to change.

If we want a healthier generation, we must start by addressing what they believe today.

Today we celebrate someone very special to our team, Faridah Nalumansi. 🎉

Faridah’s journey is one that truly reflects what we believe in.

She first came through our own Truth Design Academy as a student, learning, growing, and sharpening her skills. Today, she stands as our Assistant Communications Officer, leading the way in how our story is seen and shared.

From crafting our newsletters, to designing beautiful reports, to capturing powerful moments through photography and story telling, Faridah is not just part of the team, she is the voice and the eye behind so much of our work.

She is not just beauty, she is brilliance, creativity, and consistency.

Your transformation reminds us why we do what we do.
You are living proof that when young people are given opportunity, they rise and carry others with them.

Happy Birthday, Faridah. 🎂
We celebrate you today and all that you are becoming.
