Ahead of the 7th Annual National Women Entrepreneurs’ Symposium & Youth Summit 2025, we had the profound honor of hosting our donors from Korea Hope Foundation.

They visited our key project sites in Kasubi and Kalerwe markets to observe the implementation and witness firsthand progress of the "Empowering Women and Youth in Urban Markets for Sustainable Livelihoods and Climate Resilience" project.

During the visit, we were excited to showcase how the women are embracing the Black Soldier Fly( ) project, a key initiative fostering climate resilience and circular economy practices.

This project is helping them turn market waste and garbage into valuable cash income!

Most inspiringly, the team heard powerful testimonies directly from the beneficiaries—hearing their stories of improved livelihoods and resilience.

The air in Bugiri Central Market is electrified today as the Bugiri Central Women Saving and Credit Cooperative officially launches a monumental achievement proving the undeniable power of collective action and commitment!

This is not merely the launch of a financial service; it is the powerful culmination of months of intensive skill-building, where dedicated market women transformed their vision into tangible reality through comprehensive training in Movement Building, Transformational Leadership, and Business Financial Literacy, made possible by IST and the foundational support of African Women's Development Fund.

Before today, market women faced crippling barriers from predatory interest rates to unsafe savings options but this cooperative will change everything by creating a trusted, member-owned financial platform that puts control and resources directly into their hands, ensuring better loans for restocking, security through savings, and shared profits for all members.

Women who once worked alone are now standing together, supporting, empowering, and driving lasting change in their community.

What began as a simple conversation has sparked a remarkable transformation in Bugiri Central Market.
From piles of uncollected garbage and leaking roofs to clean, safe, and dignified spaces — these women have turned challenges into victories.

They boldly raised their voices for better hygiene, the construction of separate toilets for men and women, and regular garbage collection and they were !

Today, the market looks and feels different — a place that reflects the power of unity, leadership, and collective action.

But this is only the beginning.

IST is currently participating in the 2nd Uganda National Conference on Health, Human Rights, and Development, organized by Center for Health, Human rights and Development and the Ministry of Health.

The conference was presided over by the Prime minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja as the Guest of Honor.

Our Program Officer, Tuhaise Jesca is representing the voices of market women, youth, and rural women and youth farmers who often face barriers to accessing healthcare due to social determinants.

This conference is a timely reminder of the need to prioritize marginalized communities through sensitization and awareness-raising initiatives. The theme, "The Right to Health: Bridging Gaps Across Other Sectors to Achieve Equitable Health for All," resonates deeply with our work.

Let's work together to drive policy reforms, strengthen multi-sectoral action, and mobilize resources to improve health outcomes for all Ugandans.
