Trade, property rights, and the rule of law are essential components of a free and prosperous society. Uganda is no exception to this rule. That's why we at Action for Liberty and Economic Development (ALED) launched a new programme this month to empower local businesses by defending them from eviction, harassment, and arbitrary law enforcement.

Traders in Entebbe are in conflict with the municipal council over the location and use of commercial space. According to the traders, space promised to them by the local government through long-standing agreements is improperly and corruptly given to individuals outside of the initial accords. As a result, traders who previously occupied secure and open operational areas have been displaced to the streets, in many instances impeding their ability to continue their businesses.

This month, we started engaging Entebbe's municipal planners, mayor, and local representatives to defend the rights of vendors.

We have been able to partner with Uganda's national chamber of commerce, concerned industries, and with local traders' association to seek court intervention. The Equal Opportunity Commission of Uganda has summoned the municipal town and councillors to ensure that vendors regain their rights.

Hello friend,
i request for your support towards our 10th Africa Liberty.

support Africa Liberty Camp 2025 https://danforfreedom.com/freedom-for-africa/...

In 2014, we began a fascinating journal of ideas to transform our society. As young leaders in the university, we were transitioning from socialism to embracing the new ideas of the free market. After organizing our first liberty camp in 2014, we chose to organize it annually, till today. It is now a decade of struggle fighting with ideas to shape and change the narrative about freedom. Our society has a history of violence against freedom, decent, free speech, and property rights, and the abusers and ideas that abuse freedom are cherished and considered to be noble.
As a movement, after 10 years, we appreciate the fruits of the challenges we have encountered. We appreciate the friends of liberty and partners who have valued and supported the work we do to promote a peaceful and The Alternative Ugandasociety.
At 10-years of Africa Liberty Camp, we celebrate the efforts of the organization steering the cause for freedom, organizers of Africa Liberty Camp such as Action for Liberty and Economic Development Action For Development Initiative-AFODI Mtindo Network Development Initiative and Miklah Life.

We urge Tanzanian authorities to immediately release Agather Atuhaire and others in detention for traveling to Tanzania to monitor the trial of Tundu Lissu.

Conducting trial observation is not a crime. It’s an essential duty of human rights defenders and civil society working on fair trials. It helps to promote transparency by shining a light on the fairness of trials and serve as an important disinfectant of abuse of power.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” Martin Luther King Jr once said. We all have a moral obligation to stand up for human rights and shine a light on concerning situations, whether at home or abroad.

Instead of harassing and arbitrarily detaining and deporting defenders from partner States, Tanzanian authorities should embrace the fundamental principles of the East African Community that include adherence to the principles of democracy, rule of law, accountability, and transparency.
