As a team, we’ve been thinking about ways to create more opportunities for the children we support beyond education.
Many of the children PIOTU works with come from rural and disadvantaged families, where opportunities to attend children’s events, creative activities, or simply spend a fun day with other children are very limited.
That’s how the idea of our Day of Creativity was born a day to bring children from our different communities together to sing, play games, read stories, create, share a meal, and simply enjoy being children.
During Janet, Isobel, and Birgit’s visit, we launched our very first Day of Creativity by making the most of the resources we already had. The community provided tents, we organised craft materials that had been donated by our sponsors and supporters, and Janet, Birgit, and Isobel provided games and meals for the children.
Our focus is on our primary school children, and although it was a short day, the joy on their faces said it all. For many, it was their first experience of something like this.
We hope to make the Day of Creativity an annual tradition, giving our children something special to look forward to each year and creating lasting memories as they grow.
