Background

Breath of hope Uganda, originates from Prayer Miracle Church of Christ (PMCC).it started in 2016 from Bukedea district at the main branch of PMCC. The church was inspired to render a helping hand to the communities because of the challenges they faced ranging from;

Ø Poverty, most of the people in bukedea and serere are poor and leave bellow a dollar, and most of them cannot afford three square meals a day.

Ø High Maternal and child motility rates and general ill health escalated by high medical by costs.

Ø High rate of Orphans with a number of orphaned children in need of education, shelter and safety.

Ø Early marriages leading to teenage mothers.

Ø High rates of domestic violence and polygamy leading to neglect of women and children by men.

Ø High school dropout rates especially at primary level caused by low income per household leading to lack of school fees.

The above challenges became a point of concern to the church; they affected effective spread of the gospel. The church therefore, developed rudimentary approaches to mitigate these challenges through rendering temporal help like; sponsoring education to the orphans at a low scale, distribution of scholastic materials to the under privileged children, and distributing clothes and household materials to the poor in Bukedea and Serere districts, partnering with registered orphanages in settling of the homeless orphaned children etc. The sources of funding for the above activities have been informal donations from willing Christians. However, this proved unsustainable. There was therefore, need for sustainable measures to overcome such challenges.

The most effective and sustainable solution to address the above challenges was to develop a charitable Non Governmental Organization (NGO) hence the birth of BREATH OF HOPE UGANDA in January 2017.

Breath of Hope Uganda is a nonprofit Christian Relief Development and Advocacy Organization. Through human-rights initiatives designed to meet the needs of children and women, BOHU is dedicated to serve vulnerable Children, women and Communities to overcome Poverty, ill health and other injustices. Motivated by our Christian faith, Breath of Hope Uganda serves all people regardless of their religion, ethnicity, and gender. It currently operates in four districts in Uganda; Kampala, Mukono, Bukedea and Serere.
