Transitional Equity Uganda

Transitional Equity Uganda This is an organisation that fights for the rights of the transgender women and transgender s*x workers in Uganda. TEU’s objectives:
1.

Transgender Equality Uganda (TEU) was started in April 2011 by Tushabe Beyonce, a transgender woman, after noticing that transgender women’s issues were being neglected by the Ugandan LGB (le***an, gay, bis*xual) movement and that transgender s*x workers’ issues were being ignored by the commercial s*x work movement in Uganda. Transgender women suffer discrimination and violence in Ugandan society

including corrective r**e, mob justice, unlawful housing evictions, discrimination in healthcare services, and harassment from the media and police. Transgender s*x workers also face increased violence, including r**e by police officers and clients. Sexual violence towards transgender women and transgender s*x workers put the community at a higher risk for STDs/STIs and HIV/AIDS. TEU works to empower transgender women and transgender s*x workers to mobilize and advocate for their rights and educate Ugandan society about different gender expressions. TEU’s vision is a Ugandan society that understands and accepts different gender expressions and works to promote human rights, economic empowerment, and equal access to health services for transgender women and transgender s*x workers. Educate Ugandan society about transgender issues.
2. Promote access to health care services, including HIV prevention, care, treatment and support, as well as legal and social services for transgender women and transgender s*x workers.
3. Promote safer s*x practices for transgender women and transgender s*x workers’ health and well-being.
4. Organize and mobilize transgender women and transgender s*x workers to claim their rights and allow their voices to be heard, including advocating for fair and safe working conditions for transgender s*x workers.
5. Call for quality health and human rights support, including the documentation and exposure of human rights violations and stigmatization against transgender women and transgender s*x workers.
6. Build partnerships and alliances so that transgender women and transgender s*x workers are an active part of the LGB (le***an, gay, bis*xual) and s*x work movement in Uganda.

In these challenging times when funding is shrinking and the world feels heavier than it shouldplease remember this: you are still deserving of softness, safety, and care.
Even when resources are limited, your worth has not decreased. Your existence, your resilience, and your brilliance continue to light the way for so many others.
Take a moment to breathe.
Take a moment to rest.
Take a moment to remind yourself that survival itself is an act of power.
Self-care doesn’t always require money. It can be found in the small things:
🌱 Checking in with your body
💛 Setting boundaries
🌿 Reaching out to a sister for support
✨ Allowing yourself to feel proud of how far you’ve come
And remember—community care is still alive, even when funding isn’t. We hold each other up. We find strength in each other. We continue to exist loudly, peacefully, and beautifully.
You are not alone.
You are not forgotten.
You are worthy of love, rest, and a future that honors who you are.
Keep going, queen. Your light is needed.
