CCFU exists to promote the recognition of culture as vital for human development that responds to our national identity and diversity
Our Programme Areas. The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda has three interlinked programme areas through which we work to achieve our mission:
1. The “Promotion of a Culture in Development approach” provides the foundation for all our work as it supplies evidence
to illustrate the value of culture in development work and enables us to better understand the cultural context within which we operate. i) CCFU also provides tailor –made support and training to other organisations and institutions wishing to adopt a culture in development approach in their practice. ii) Carries out research on topical issues related to Culture in development.
2. The second programme area “Cultural heritage preservation and development” specifically focuses on;
i) Promotion of local cultural heritage initiatives, especially supporting 25 community museums throughout the country and preserving our built heritage and historical buildings
ii) Heritage education to engage young people in protecting and promoting cultural heritage in secondary schools and for youth outside schools. iii) Policy advocacy for a conducive operating environment for heritage development and protection. iv) Promotion of cultural tourism, entrepreneurship, especially for youth and women.
3. The third strand of our programme work focuses on “Cultural rights, governance and managing diversity” this includes working with
i) Selected indigenous minority groups to protect their cultural rights
ii) Engaging cultural leaders to promote a culture in governance approach at local and national levels
iii) Supporting Cultural communities to foster mutual understanding across ethnic divides. Our key strategies are:
