To this end, the Organization is committed to engage in a variety of Activities to reach out to this critical Constituency of the youth and included are the following:
The School Outreach Program which is underway, is a forum which directly addresses the Second Core objective of informing young People on their health. The Initiative connects with students and Youth by visiting their Schools where
we speak to them from their respective classes on issues critical to their wellbeing such as Building Self Esteem, HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Alcoholism, and Career Guidance issues, among others. Along with the above is the Proactive Youth Program which we intend to use as a tool to promote Sports, Music, Dance and Drama among Youth Members during the School break or School Holidays. The Initiative plans to start carrying out Annual Youth Camps through which members and Participants will engage in a number of activities aimed to promote life skills and career development. Through such events, members and participants learn through play, celebrating one another’s achievements, and milestones while laying a platform for the youth to unleash their untapped potential. The DCYI Resource Centre is also a critical intervention in as far as Knowledge and Information Disbursement is concerned. The growing percentage of youth literacy due to increased effort particularly by the government and development Partners on Primary, Secondary, University and other tertiary Institutions enrolment means the availability of information and ease of accessing it will direct these youth on how to position themselves to benefit from the opportunities of the Information age. The resource center will be established to enable youth to access relevant information on empowerment, self-esteem and entrepreneurship. It will also have a Safe Sports Grounds Annex, Library and Workshop Facilities. The hands-on skills training program will offer first hand learning experience to participants as a vital remedy to the increasing burden of Youth Unemployment. The Initiative hopes to introduce activities such as; Computer Skills Training, Carpentry and woodwork, metal work and agriculture among others. These and more youth tailored projects will equip participants with practical Entrepreneurial Skills they need to meet their Personal, Professional and civic needs
The hunger Fight project is a program that will be implemented by DCYI aimed at fighting hunger and malnutrition in partner schools and communities to promote healthier child Development. This is especially so because present evidence suggests that a Nutritious Diet is critical in ensuring physical, mental (psychological), and general growth.
