What if the future of counseling in Uganda isn’t guesswork, but proof?

With only 1.13 mental health personnel per 100,000 Ugandans and just 1% of the health budget going to mental health, we can’t afford “trial and error”. Interventions like IPT-G and CBT are already reducing depression and anxiety symptoms in Ugandan communities and clinics.

Join this session and be part of the shift. Let’s unpack which approaches actually work here, how counselors are closing gaps, and what standards we must set so every client gets care that meets their needs. If you counsel, train, or supervise, this conversation will reshape how you practice and your contribution to the discussion will be appreciated.

This Martyrs Day, the world remembers the faith, courage, and sacrifice of the Uganda Martyrs who stood firm for their beliefs.

As we face the challenge of Ebola, public gatherings have been paused to keep our communities safe. Yet the spirit of this day cannot be paused. We encourage you to commemorate it in your homes, in your hearts, in your modest dress, and in places of worship where you can safely go.

Let the legacy of the Martyrs live on through us: by loving one another, spreading hope instead of fear, and being a center of happiness and strength for our families and neighbors. Check on someone who is grieving. Share a prayer. Offer comfort.
The Martyrs taught us that faith and unity overcome any trial. Together, we will overcome this too.

From all of us at Uganda Counselling Association, we wish you a reflective, blessed, and peaceful Martyrs Day.

Stay safe. Stay faithful. Stay united.

Rhythm-Based Wellness: Harnessing the Power of Drum Circles as a Multidisciplinary Tool for Mental Health Promotion in Diverse Ugandan Communities.

This video captures the heart of our conference session where drum circles proved they’re more than music, they’re medicine. From rural villages to urban communities across Uganda, rhythm is breaking barriers, easing anxiety, building connection, and giving people a voice without words.

We’re inspired by the beauty of this therapy, the stories shared, and the energy in the room. The learning doesn’t stop here. We’re carrying this forward and can’t wait to dive deeper in upcoming sessions.

A key moment at the 5th Uganda National Mental Health Conference. With the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Presidents of Professional Associations (Uganda Association of Psychiatrists, Uganda Counseling Association, Clinical Psychologists Association Uganda, National Social Workers Association Uganda and International Association of Counselling -AFRICA), leadership of the National Mental Health Working Group, and the Ministry of Health leadership from the Division of Mental Health and Control of Substance Use

Together we’re strengthening collaboration, policy, and action for mental health and wellbeing across Uganda. A powerful show of unity and commitment to advancing mental health services for all Ugandans.

This is what progress looks like when we work together.

At the 5th UNMHConf2026, our Guest of Honour, Dr. Diana Atwine, emphasized that “Professionalism must be rooted in compassion and accountability. Mental health is foundational to societal wellbeing and requires multisectoral investment and innovation.”

Her remarks reaffirmed a clear commitment to advancing mental health in Uganda. She also pledged to support our collaborative efforts to advocate for increased budgetary allocation for mental health within the Ministry of Health.
