Empowering Youth Through Beekeeping in Zombo District.

SMART SAM'S SERVICE FOUNDATION UGANDA has launched an impactful beekeeping project aimed at transforming livelihoods among youth in Zombo District. The initiative targets young people in Paidha Sub County, Nyapea Sub County, Athuma Sub County, and Abanga Sub County, with a goal of directly benefiting 450 youth households.
The project, titled “ Beekeeping the Traditional Way – Easy & Affordable to Start, Maintain, and Economically Rewarding,” focuses on equipping youth with practical skills in traditional beekeeping methods. These methods are cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and accessible to rural communities.
Currently, hands-on training is underway in Mundhel Village, where over 30 beehives have already been set up and are performing well. Participants are actively learning how to construct, manage, and harvest from the hives, gaining valuable knowledge that can generate sustainable income.
This initiative is expected to expand to other parts of Zombo District, contributing to broader economic empowerment and self-reliance among youth. By promoting beekeeping, the foundation is not only improving household incomes but also encouraging environmental conservation.

The project is led by Kumakech Sam, Founder and Executive Director of SMART SAM'S SERVICE FOUNDATION UGANDA & the Foundation team of Staffs, whose vision is to create lasting opportunities for young people through practical and scalable solutions.

Parombo A Business Model the West Nile Region Must Embrace.

_By Kumakech Sam, Social Policy Analyst._

Parombo - Padyere County-Nebbi District is no longer just a border town it is fast becoming the business heartbeat of the West Nile region and a model community we should all learn from.

This vibrant trading hub has produced some of the region’s most impactful entrepreneurs. From Okaba of Rock Fuel and real estate brand, to Oyoma Bob in beverage production ,real estate and agro-processing, Milton Avua in wholesale real estate and retail, and KG Adubango in hospitality these are not just business people, but living examples of discipline, resilience, and vision.
Their success stories, built from humble beginnings, prove that wealth creation is possible through hard work and consistency.

More importantly, their impact goes beyond profit. They are major employers, community supporters, and cultural champions. Their contributions to religious institutions, community development, and the historic 2023 Ubimu coronation where land was generously donated to His Royal Majesty Ubimu Olarker Phillip Rauni demonstrate a deep commitment to both people and heritage.

These entrepreneurs are also aligned with government programmes, showing that business success and national development can go hand in hand.
The message is clear if you want your business to grow, study Parombo. Learn from these individuals.Their model works.

It is now up to the Alur, West Nile community and our leaders to step up support these business pioneers, protect their investments, and advocate for policies such as tax incentives and government backing where necessary. These are not just successful individuals they are strategic assets to regional and national development.
Parombo is not just a place it is a lesson. And we cannot afford to ignore it.
