Since 2009, WOUGNET in partnership with Uganda Communications Commission has been able to reach out to over 2,000 youth through Girl Child Camps and ICT Youth Forums with basic ICT training and awareness about ICT in sectors such as education as well as gender concerns in ICT. The main objectives of the forums are to raise awareness on gender and ICT issues, share the role Uganda Communications Co
mmission, explain consumer rights and obligations as well as understanding the role of ICTs in development which ends with equiping participants with basic ICT skills. Camps and Forums have been held in the districts of Arua, Nebbi, Koboko, Fortportal, Hoima, Kasese, Jinja, Iganga, Tororo, Mbarara, Bushenyi and Ntungamo. At the forum in Bushenyi, Western Uganda, WOUGNET was privileged to launch the “ICT4D Youth Network” whose objective is to empower Youth through the use of ICTs for Sustainable Development. Much as our emphasis is on empowering women, we realise that there is a great need to empower the young generation too.
