Urgent Humanitarian Appeal Regarding the Humanitarian Disaster in the Blue Nile Region
The Darfur Victims Support Organization (DVSO) and the Hope and Haven Refugees Organization express their deep concern over the dangerous and rapid deterioration of the humanitarian and health conditions for displaced civilians from Geissan Locality in the Blue Nile Region, amid severe difficulties in delivering humanitarian aid and basic services to the affected areas.
According to eyewitness statements provided to both organizations and a statement issued by the Blue Nile Civil Society Initiative, the number of displaced persons during the month of September 2026 reached approximately 42,271 individuals, comprising 3,803 families, including 24,266 children, 11,713 women, and 6,463 men.
The displaced population is distributed across the following areas:
Sansanaw : 7,080 displaced persons
Famodo / Abu Dugla : 24,836 displaced persons
Aqaro / Ajo : 6,549 displaced persons
Qal Inq : 1,488 displaced persons
Areas within Ethiopia : 2,318 displaced persons
Many of the displaced are living under extremely harsh conditions under trees, in open areas, and in forests without adequate shelter to protect them from rain and weather conditions during the autumn season, alongside an acute shortage of food, drinking water, shelter, healthcare, and basic services.
The crisis is further compounded by the deterioration of health services, movement restrictions, and difficulties in accessing affected areas during the rainy season, in addition to the rising risks of waterborne diseases, poor environmental conditions, and the spread of mosquitoes.
Furthermore, the worsening security situation and ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) escalate the risks facing civilians and hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.
Accordingly, the two organizations issue an urgent humanitarian appeal to the United Nations, international, regional, and national humanitarian organizations, and donor entities to scale up the emergency humanitarian response, and to provide food, drinking water, shelter, health services, medicines, environmental sanitation supplies, and protection for the displaced and affected populations.
The two organizations also call upon the parties to the conflict to declare an immediate humanitarian truce, guarantee safe and unhindered humanitarian access to civilians, and respect and protect civilians and humanitarian workers in accordance with international humanitarian law.
The continuation of these conditions without an urgent response exposes thousands of displaced children, women, and families to further health and humanitarian risks, necessitating immediate action to prevent further deterioration and to protect civilian lives.
