"I started with one plot just to see if it would work."

Meet George Bamturaki from Mitooma District, a Trees for Global Benefits pioneer farmer whose life changed when he decided to give tree planting a chance.

At the time, George was struggling financially. Then one day, he checked his account and found money he wasn't expecting. That payment sparked something bigger than income. It sparked a belief in the value of trees.

Over time, the benefits grew, and so did his commitment. The income from his trees helped him construct a house and improve his family's wellbeing.

Today, George's message is simple:

Plant trees. Be patient. The benefits will come.

His story is proof that when communities invest in nature, nature invests back.

This one melted our hearts a little.

First, the troupe leader confidently walks through and gives the camera a curious glance. Then comes a mother chimp, baby by her side, both pausing as if to say, “Are you filming us?”

Moments like these remind us just how beautiful and connected life in our forests really is.

Now tell us… which chimp stole the show? The leader or the little family?

“I faced many challenges and wanted to give up… but I kept going.”

Meet Christopher Gumisiriza, a Trees for Global Benefits pioneer farmer from Mitooma District whose story is one of patience, determination, and hope.

Christopher began planting trees with Ecotrust in 2006, despite struggling to access seedlings and facing many setbacks along the way. Three years later, his patience paid off when he received his first carbon payment of UGX 130,000. He continued planting, growing more trees, and later received even more support through carbon income.

Today, his trees do more than grow. They provide firewood, medicine, and financial security, helping him buy goats and support his family.

“I am grateful to Ecotrust for this initiative,” he says.

Because sometimes, the seeds we almost give up on become the very thing that changes our lives.

At the close of the launch, key stakeholders officially signed and launched the Ecotrust Impact Report, marking an important milestone in capturing 27 years of conservation finance, community transformation, and landscape restoration achievements across Uganda.

This moment reflects not only where the journey has been, but where it is headed, grounded in evidence, impact, and community-led conservation.
