YouthLearn Africa is a nonprofit initiative dedicated to empowering young people aged 12–24 across Africa with the knowledge and tools

to become digital storytellers and community leaders. 🌍✨

Through our Powerful Learning to Inspire Young Minds approach, we combine live, practical, and online training to make media literacy and digital skills accessible to in-school and out-of-school youth, especially in underserved communities. Use photography, video, audio and graphic design to tell authentic stories. Collaborate on projects that address real community issues. Showcase their work online and in public forums to spark social change. Our vision is to build a generation of Digital Changemakers who create with purpose, use their voices responsibly, and transform their communities. Join us in giving Africa’s youth the tools, confidence, and platform they need to thrive in a digital world. 🌱🎥📸

As Days go by 🔥 at the Digital Changemakers Program!

Our teams are using target mapping to turn their issues of concern into clear story ideas. From the flipcharts and circles to the group presentations, you can see the shift—from “this is a problem” to “this is a story we are going to tell on film.” 🎬

Learners are working in crews, mapped causes, effects and key people, then stood up to explain their ideas to others. The confidence, teamwork and deep thinking we saw in these sessions was beautiful to watch.

Step by step, these young people are shaping real, authentic youth-voice documentaries. We can’t wait to see these maps become powerful films! 💡🌍

Digital Changemakers Program is officially in the books! 🎬✨

For two days our young people dived straight into storytelling sharing real experiences from their lives, mapping what’s happening in their communities, and naming the issues they care most about. These ideas begin to take shape on paper as storyboards turning raw stories into clear scenes and visual plans for their first short films. 🚀

So encouraged by their honesty, creativity and courage. Kira is full of powerful stories, and these youths are ready to tell them. 💙

New Classroom Vibe! ✨
Incredible energy in our groups today! Using the tablets is turning visual learning into a full-on collaboration. Students are clustered together, analyzing framing and composition, teaching each other the secrets of great media.

It’s personal, powerful, and proof that learning is better when it’s shared. So proud to see these future storytellers in action! 📸

🎬 A Big Step Forward at Wampeewo Ntake!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of supporters around the world, 6 student media kits are now in the hands of young creators in Uganda! 📱🎧🎤

But… 4 student groups are still waiting for their chance to learn, create, and share their story with the world. ❤️

We are halfway to our goal of $2,300, which will allow us to equip all 10 groups in our Digital Changemakers Program empowering 60 students with the tools to produce films about the issues that matter most:
🌍 Climate Action
📚 Quality Education
🚰 Clean Water & Sanitation
✊ Gender Equality
🕊️ Peace & Justice

Every contribution — big or small — puts a device in the hands of a young storyteller who is ready to change their community.

🎬 A Beautiful Beginning at Wampeewo Ntake!

Today, six student groups received their first media production kits tablets, headphones, and lapel mics made possible through the generosity of our amazing supporters. 💙

The excitement was unmatched smiles, laughter, and that spark of creativity as students explored their new tools for the very first time.

These kits mark the start of hands-on learning in our Digital Changemakers Program, where students will begin creating their own short films through activities like Video Alphabet Soup and Video Scavenger Hunt!

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has given so far your support is turning ideas into stories, and learners into storytellers. 🌍

We still have four groups waiting for their kits every bit of help keeps the dream growing.

The mind-shift is happening at Wampeewo Ntaake SS! Our young Digital Changemakers have moved past simply consuming media and are now masters of media analysis (Module 1). We challenged them to deconstruct the media they see every day and the realizations were powerful!

This week, they channeled that critical energy inward, creating honest and inspiring List Poems and Story Starters. These initial stories are the fuel for their future media projects, touching on themes of self-doubt, community hope, and the desire to advocate for others. You can see the raw creativity here !

Why it matters: A great media advocate must first know their own story. We are laying the foundation for authentic, impactful media that only they can create.

And so it begins! 🎉 We are thrilled to announce the launch of our pilot Digital Changemakers Program at Wampeewo Ntaake Secondary School in Uganda!

Yesterday was Day 1, and the energy in the room was electric. We welcomed 60 bright, young minds ready to go from media consumers to media creators. Their first challenge? Deconstructing the media they see every day to find its hidden messages.

This is more than just a training—it's the start of a movement. We can't wait to see the stories they will tell and the change they will create.

Stay tuned to see how these young leaders unfold their powerful projects over the next five weeks!
