Our Story
Twekembe Slum Project (TSP) is a non-profitable, voluntary, charitable, not political, non-segregative organization that doesn’t discriminate against any person in terms of religious affiliations, nationality, color, race or any other beliefs or norms. The main aim for the establishment of Twekembe Slum Project was to engage youths in slum affected areas into charitable works aimed at improving their sanitation, economic, social, human and educational status. It also looks at how to uplift the status of single mothers and how to help HIV/AIDS affected areas/people to cope with life as normal citizens of the country. Therefore as an organization, its vision, mission and specific aims and objectives are clearly defined; MISSION To stimulate a sense of insight and to look into all aspects of life, effect and influence policies with an aim to give second opportunity to the vulnerable groups around them like the orphans , youths, single mothers and improve general well being of mankind and the environment. VISION To help lift people from poverty and promote sustainable urban development by improving the standards of sanitation and overall welfare of the residents of Kampala slums through education, work-related demonstrations and enterprise opportunities. OBJECTIVES 1. To improve the sanitation and health standards of the residents of Kampala slums in terms of access to clean water, including sponsoring or sourcing for sponsors, facilitators or partners to support the implementation of such projects and activities. 2. To support the developments of an enterprise culture and skills for employment of local residents through coaching, initiating enterprise opportunities and promoting the skills and talents of local residents to the wider public. 3. To educate the local community about water, sanitation and sustainable development, through demonstration and training, including that of sustainable environmental practices and alternative technologies. 4. To share lessons and practices learned through the project to raise awareness amongst local people and the international community about the challenges of urban poverty and sustainable urban development and planning. 5. To sensitize, educate and empower local communities to monitor and protect their local environment and use it sustainable.
