"We cannot walk away from the challenges facing children and do nothing."

This message echoed throughout a two-day regional advocacy engagement organised in Moroto by Nascent RDO Uganda with funding support from The Freedom Fund. The event brought together government leaders, development partners, civil society, and community voices to tackle child marriage and other forms of child exploitation in Karamoja.

What commitments were made? What solutions emerged? And what role can leaders play in protecting childhood?

Today, on the World Day Against Child Labour, we stand with children as they raise their voices for a future free from exploitation. These children are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are advocates for change today. Their message is clear: every child deserves safety, education, dignity, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Together, let us strengthen our commitment to ending child labour in all its forms and ensuring that every child enjoys their right to a childhood.

Children in Mayuge District are raising their voices against child labour. Through a Children’s Conference, they are developing a collective Action Paper that will be presented to national actors on the World Day Against Child Labour 2026, calling for stronger action to protect children’s rights and futures.

In Uganda’s Napak district, drought and food insecurity have long driven families to send children to beg in Kampala or work in unregulated mines.

Only 37% of children attend school regularly, leaving many more vulnerable to traffickers.

Grassroots Alliance for Rural Development (GARD) is changing that by helping households build resilience through climate‑smart farming and village savings groups.

As families grow food and save through lean seasons, fewer children are sent away and more stay in school.

Across Uganda, this is just one example of the 3,627 lives we’ve impacted with our partners.

Meet the Change-Makers of Timingorok, Tapac Subcounty, Moroto District!

Who says young parents can't lead the way? We just wrapped up a 3-day intensive training with 30 incredible young mothers (ages 18–25) in Timingorok village.

They didn't just learn about savings; they: âś… Developed their own group constitution. âś… Democratically elected their own leaders. âś… Committed to being the eyes and ears of child protection in their community.
