Located in one of Kampala’s most prominent slums, Hope for Katanga Kids Project sets out to give kids an alternative to the risks of growing up in a slum. Hope for Katanga Kids Project is a multi-faceted organization that addresses many problems that face the youth in Katanga slum. Our goals are to empower the youth to overcome these obstacles and instill hope for a better tomorrow. Our areas of f
ocus are…
Street Kids: There are many kids who end up having no choice but to beg and sleep on Kampala’s streets. Many of them are estranged from their families and are struggling for basic needs. H4KKP assists these kids with food, shelter, and care, while working with the child to reunite them with their families. HIV/AIDS: A rampant problem in Uganda is the spread of HIV/AIDS and Katanga is no exception. H4KKP works with kids and adults who are living HIV positive by providing counseling and inspiring hope. The project makes a big effort to spread awareness of the causes and prevention of HIV/AIDS in the Katanga community. Education: Once a child has their basic necessities met, the next step is education. Education is the key to overcoming life in a slum and investing in a brighter future. However, education in Uganda is not cheap. H4KKP’s sponsorship program partners with parents to provide quality education for their child. Skills Training: Education opportunities don’t stop at the classroom. H4KKP wants to equip children with practical skills, such as computer training and tailoring, to give kids a better chance of securing a job in Uganda’s incredibly high unemployment rate. Talent Promotion: Every kid has their God-given talents and H4KKP wants to bring those talents to life. Hope for Katanga Kids uses sports, singing, dancing, and drama to showcase their abilities and deliver messages of hope to the rest of Katanga slum.
