Woodball is a mallet and ball sport in which players use mallets to hit wooden balls through a series of gates on a course in as few strokes as possible. Woodball is one of the few ball games that do not require a standardised playing area. The game is played on a course with arranged progression of either 12 or 24 fairways. Each fairway on the course must contain a tee-box where start from and a
gate area containing the actual gate. Each fairway on the course is unique in its layout and arrangement. Woodball is played for the lowest number of strokes by an individual or team, known as Stroke Competition, or the lowest score on the most individual fairways in a complete round by an individual or team, known as Fairway Competition. Stroke Competition is the most commonly seen format at all levels.
