The objective of the project is to help all youth living in rural area have access to ICT education services and also improve information technology education in schools through setting up of complete computer labs fully installed with internet and all computer accessories , and more to that to also help improve elaerning in schools and communities
In 2004 we started the connected to knowledge p
roject! Program through donation of 30-50 computers to schools with a small group of youth with poor ICT skills and have seen dramatic improvements with most of the people increasing their ICT skills ability by one to two grade levels. Since 2005 to date, we have so far now helped over 18 schools and have donated over 500 computers to schools in Uganda. The project program provides people with access to assistive ICT reading systems, along with training for classroom teachers through donation of computers to schools and communities. Our desire is to provide education in information technology to youth in rural communities through setting up ICT centres in communities and schools where the people can learn computer usage especially those from the extremely low income areas. It is expected that through the providing of information technology services to the schools and communities in rural areas that it will have a direct and positive effect on the well-being of the people of the community through the skills gained through school and community computer labs that are being set up. Each volunteer selected is expected to successfully participate in a 2 week training program at the beginning of their work with Change I.T foundation Uganda. This training program provides basic information concerning computer knowledge for youth and information on adult computer teaching methods. The volunteer is then placed in one of the schools where change IT Uganda donated computers to help the school improve they computer skills through various means. Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) has been increasingly recognized as a significant tool for poverty reduction in poor and low-income developing countries. Currently, there is high level of interest and commitment from various quarters, including governmental agencies, private organizations, international development organizations and NGOs to explore, adapt and implement technology-based projects to speed up activities aimed for sustainable development of rural and marginalized communities in remote and inaccessible areas. The rapid advancement and consumption demonstrated by technology users in developed countries and also in progressive cities and towns in developing countries have encouraged interventions extending ICT to the poor and the underprivileged
We have seen measurable success and we are now seeking to expand our connected to knowledge ICT project Program to address the needs of all the people in the rural schools. We will appreciate your organization for taking an interest in helping our youth in rural schools develop their ICT skills through our ICT program.
