From 15,000 UGX to Aquaculture Professional: Christopher’s Journey 🐟 🌍
For many 22-year-olds in Kamuli, "work" used to mean strenuous construction labor, inconsistent pay, and a lack of workplace safety. Christopher Musambi was one of them, earning just 15,000 UGX a day in an environment where respect and professional growth were hard to find.
This , we are proud to spotlight how our project- WeWork-Green and decent jobs for youth is changing that narrative for youths in Busoga.
Through a work-based learning placement at Kamos Agro Fish Farm, Christopher traded manual labor for technical mastery. He didn’t just learn to farm; he learned to aquaculture the right way.
Today, he is skilled in:
• Precision Fish Grading: Optimizing yields by size-sorting.
• Infrastructure: Constructing and welding lake-based cages.
• Agribusiness: Implementing cement-lined systems to reduce stock loss.
Under the WeWork project, Christopher now works in an environment defined by mutual respect, clear task allocation, and safety.
"The future is bright," Christopher says. He’s no longer looking for a job; he’s looking to launch a collective aquaculture business with fellow youth.
The WeWork- Green and decent jobs for youth is funded by the , of Belgium in Uganda through . Implemented by , , and in Kamuli and Jinja districts.
