Child's i Foundation

Child's i Foundation Keeping children in safe, loving families, by addressing the root causes of separation, through community-led solutions. Nearly all have family.

In Uganda, more than 50,000 children are growing up in orphanages. Orphanages make orphans out of children. Every day, families are forced to give up children in the promise of a better life. They lose their childhoods and their life chances. Child’s i Foundation helps children return to families by rebuilding family support systems. We work with partners to create foster care networks that keep c

hildren out of orphanages. We help repurpose orphanages into services that meet local needs: preventing family separation, reuniting families or placing children with safe adoptive parents. We work with the Government to build a national social workforce across Uganda, and help a nation reimagine the care of its most vulnerable citizens. At Child’s i Foundation we make families, not orphans.

At Child’s i Foundation, we believe that those who care for others deserve to be cared for too.

Recently, we held one of our regular team days, part of our Inner Health Programme, a staff wellbeing and equity initiative. This programme, which we’ve sustained for the past three years (initially with donor support, now through small unrestricted grants), is a reminder that behind every impact statistic are real people who give their time, energy and hearts to the mission.

Our team days are about more than stepping away from daily work. They are a space to:
🎉 Celebrate birthdays and milestones
🤝 Play, laugh, and connect through games
🗣️ Share challenges openly and support one another
🌟 Reflect on progress and mark important achievements together

We are proud of the work we do, but we know there can be no mission without the people behind it. Investing in staff wellbeing is not a luxury, it’s essential to building resilience, equity and sustainability in any organisation.

Meet Wassajja Theodoro, aged 65, from a parish in central Uganda.

For the past two years, he has served as a para social worker (community volunteer) — chosen by his community, registered with local authorities, and working hand in hand with local leaders.

🧡 Community volunteers like Wassajja are the backbone of Child’s i Foundation’s work. They:
✔️ Champion child protection
✔️ Visit and support families
✔️ Signpost families to services
✔️ Share honest feedback to help us improve

Wassajja is also an approved foster parent with his wife, Namugga Annet. Together, they recently welcomed Simon into their family a reminder that communities themselves hold the solutions to protecting children.

At Child’s i Foundation, we believe real change happens when communities lead the way. Volunteers like Wassajja show us that love, protection, and family are at the centre of sustainable child care reform. 🧡

Happy 63rd Independence Day, Uganda! 🇺🇬

Child’s i Foundation proudly joins Uganda in celebrating 63 years of independence. This day reminds us not only of our country’s resilience and unity, but also of the strength that lives in families and communities across Uganda.

We honour the Government of Uganda’s commitment to ensuring every child grows up in the love and care of a family. Together, we continue to strengthen communities so no child experiences unnecessary separation.

On this Independence Day, we celebrate our journey and look forward with hope to a Uganda where every child truly knows the freedom of belonging to a safe and loving family.

Happy Independence Day, Uganda

International Day of Older Persons 🌿

Older persons are the guardians of our past and the guides for our future. They carry wisdom, culture, and resilience that strengthens families and communities.

At Child’s i Foundation, we want to shine a special light on grandmothers, who so often step in to raise and nurture children through kinship care. Their love provides belonging, identity, and protection when it’s needed most.

Today, we celebrate you. 🧡

🌟 It’s Team Wednesday at Child’s i! 🌟

We love Wednesdays—not just because it’s midweek, but because we get to celebrate the incredible people behind our mission.

Today, meet two of our dedicated social workers:
Iryn – one of our longest-serving team members. Her passion shines through in her words: “We strengthen families and communities so every child grows up in a safe, loving, and supportive community.”

Maurice – bringing energy and compassion to every step of his work. As he puts it: “Social work is not just a job but a way to live my values and contribute to a more just, equitable society.”

At Child’s i Foundation, it’s people like Iryn and Maurice who embody our vision of a stable and loving family for every child. 🧡
