Lady Mermaid Empowerment Centre (LMEC) hosted the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Uganda Country Director, Dr. Mary Boyd and other CDC delegatiin, Uganda AIDS Commission, Ministry of Health , Infectious Diseases Institute - Makerere University and Uganda Key Populations Consortium.

Yesterday, marked a powerful milestone as Dr Mary Boyd connected directly with communities at our Drop-In Center and co-located clinic.

From honest conversations on economic empowerment to meaningful discussions on access to health services, this was more than a visit, it was a moment of listening, learning, and shared commitment.

Community voices were heard, experiences were shared, and solutions were shaped together. This engagement reaffirmed that real impact happens when leadership meets communities where they are.

We move forward inspired, with stronger partnerships and a renewed focus on delivering inclusive, responsive services that truly meet community needs.

Lady Mermaid Empowerment Centre (LMEC) hosted the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Uganda Country Director, Dr. Mary Boyd, as part of the ongoing strategic visits to various community service delivery points. The visit served as an opportunity for strategic discussions with the community and the leadership of Infectious Diseases Institute - Makerere University (IDI) CSO mechanism to interect with community as well as understanding the landscape and what is happening in the DICs.

The delegation toured selected departments and units, including the DIC, the co-located clinic and interact with various beneficiaries for economic strengthening activities and other broader health services.
The engagement underscores the enduring partnership between the US Goverment and the community in advancing community led service delivery and engagement.

This was a huge opportunity and turning point for LMEC to discuss about our operations, achievements and challenges and to further highlight urgent service gaps.

Lady Mermaid Empowerment Centre successfully conducted a feedback meeting with our Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) Economic Empowerment Groups.

The session provided a valuable platform for members to openly share their experiences, celebrate achievements, and discuss challenges faced in savings, loan management, and group participation. It was inspiring to hear how the VSLA model continues to transform livelihoods, strengthen financial discipline, and promote community support.

Together, we identified key areas for improvement and agreed on practical actions to make our groups even stronger, more inclusive, and more impactful.
