🌍 World Urban Forum Updates (WUF13) 🏙️✨

Day One preparations for WUF13 are well underway as teams that arrived earlier successfully completed venue visits 🏢 and engaged in a series of impactful mini discussions 🤝💬.

The conversations focused on critical urban issues including the wellbeing of women and children 👩‍👧‍👦❤️, youth inclusion 👥🌱, and the growing concern of how young people are often left out of decision-making processes that shape their communities and future 🗣️🏘️.

Despite disruptions caused by flooding from heavy rains 🌧️🌊, the spirit of collaboration, resilience, and commitment remained strong 💪✨. The discussions continue to emphasize the importance of building inclusive, resilient, and people-centered cities 🌆🤲 as we move closer to WUF13 🚀🌍.

Day One of the Conference officially kicked off with powerful conversations, bold ideas, and inspiring voices shaping the future of climate adaptation and resilience. 🌍✨

Practitioners, researchers, community leaders, and change-makers came together to share innovative local solutions and lived experiences from the frontlines of climate change.

Key discussions focused on:
🌿 Nature-Based Solutions
🏘️ Housing Justice
🌍 Locally Led Adaptation
💧 Water & Infrastructure Governance
🔥 Heat Research in Cape Town
💰 Funding Windows and sustainable climate financing

The energy in the rooms reflected a shared commitment to strengthening climate networks, building local and global capacities, and advancing practical, people-centered solutions for resilient communities.

One of the highlights of the conference will be the upcoming photo exhibition, where organizations will showcase powerful stories, research, best practices, and lessons learned from diverse adaptation approaches around the world. 📸

Together, we are not only discussing climate change ,we are shaping solutions for a more resilient and sustainable future.

📍✨ ACTogether Uganda and NSDFU joined Lubaga Division officials for a vibrant planning meeting on upcoming GALLA activities aimed at strengthening 🌍 Disaster Risk Management, ♻️ Waste Management, and 🤝 Community Mobilization.

Key highlights included 🧹 community clean-up exercises, 📢 sensitization campaigns, 👩🏽‍🏫 training of DRM committees, 🏠 household waste sorting initiatives, and strong coordination with local leaders, KCCA technical teams, private companies, and community stakeholders to ensure sustainable impact.

✅ The team also agreed to hold progress review meetings with the Town Clerk every three weeks to track implementation and strengthen accountability.

Together, we are building cleaner, safer, and more resilient communities! 💚🌱

KYCTV Training – Graduation Day 🎓✨

What an incredible and memorable milestone it was as our KYCTV trainees proudly graduated after an inspiring journey of learning, creativity, and growth! 🚀💻

Over the course of the training, the young people transformed their ideas into powerful digital stories starting from computer basics to capturing their own footage, editing compelling videos, and confidently sharing their content across social media platforms 🎥📱

They explored creative editing tools, produced original videos, enhanced their work with captions and effects, and mastered the art of engaging online audiences. Their energy, teamwork, and innovation truly shone throughout the entire experience 🔥👏

By the end of the training, they had not only gained valuable technical skills but had also built confidence, creativity, and a strong passion for digital storytelling 🌍✨

Congratulations to all our graduates on this amazing achievement you made it! 🎉🎬 We’re excited to see the impact you will continue to create beyond this training!

Day 1 & 2 of the ACRC Cross-Project City Workshop have been incredibly insightful!

Participants from across the different project teams came together to reflect, share, and learn from one another. Key highlights included; open discussions on what has worked well and should be sustained, as well as honest reflections on challenges and areas needing improvement.

A strong focus was placed on collaboration moving forward, especially as the teams transition into the implementation phase of the Action Research projects. Teams explored how they can better align efforts, support one another, and strengthen collective impact.

The panel discussions were particularly engaging offering deeper understanding of each project while unpacking the existing positive and negative interactions between them. These conversations are helping to shape a more connected, responsive, and effective approach going forward.

Looking ahead, there’s a shared commitment to build on lessons learned and work more collaboratively to drive meaningful change.

🎬✨ KYCTV Training – Day 4 Highlights 🚀💻

Things got a bit more challenging today—but even more exciting—as the young people dove deeper into video editing! 🔥

Participants explored powerful editing apps like Adobe Premiere Pro, Wondershare Filmora, and CapCut, gaining practical skills that are essential for modern storytelling 🎥🖥️

There was plenty of hands-on experience, starting with understanding the basics of computers—hardware and software—which helped the team confidently navigate through the editing tools 💡

The day mainly focused on:
✅ Media management
✅ Importing media files
✅ Cutting and deleting clips ✂️
✅ Adding effects and transitions 🎞️

It’s inspiring to see the creativity growing as everyone sharpens their skills step by step! 🌟

🎬✨ KYCTV Workshop – Day 3 Highlights! 🚀

The momentum keeps building as the KYCTV team steps into Day 3 of the training! 💪📸

Today, we were introduced to the basics of videography and editing 🎥🖥️. The morning kicked off with a technical review of our Hidden Treasurer Magazine 🔍📖—this time through a creative and analytical lens—before diving into editing using Da Vinci 🎬✨.

The excitement didn’t stop there! 🌍 In the evening, the team headed out for a field visit to Kibuga Mbata and Masese Landing Site 🚤🌅, putting theory into real-life practice. From capturing live moments to telling authentic stories, the experience was truly hands-on and impactful 🎯

And guess what? 😍🚁
We had a bonus session learning how to operate a drone—taking our storytelling to new heights (literally!) 🌄✨

The journey continues, and the creativity is rising! 🔥

📸 Day 2 of the KYCTV Training in Uganda✨

Today, the team dived deeper into the basics of photography—learning how to operate a camera, understand different settings, master composition, explore angles, and discover the various types and history of photography 🖼️.

Beyond the lessons, there was plenty of time to get hands-on 🎯. Team members explored the camera creatively, experimenting, practicing, and building confidence in capturing moments from their own unique perspectives 🌍✨.

The journey is just getting started, and the growth is already exciting to see! 🚀📷

We are excited to host the Slum Dweller's International team in an exciting 6-day workshop as they train the youth to enhance their skills in making Media for Change. This is supported by the Generating Ambition for Locally Led Adaptation (GA-LLA) and The SDI Impact Innovation Initiative.

This training is designed to equip young people with practical skills in photography, videography, social media engagement, and advocacy empowering them to tell powerful stories and drive meaningful change in their communities.

Through this training, participants will learn how to create impactful media that raises awareness, amplifies local voices, and advocates for solutions to the challenges they face every day and become the next generation of community storytellers and change-makers.

Today young people have been re-oriented on the key projects, and overview of the organisations; ACTogether Uganda and National Slum Dweller's Federation of Uganda as well as Slum Dweller's International. Each of them shared their expectations of the workshop.

ACTogether Uganda and the National Slum Dwellers Federation of Uganda (NSDFU)🌍💧 carried out a community clean-up in Bwaise III one of the informal settlements as a practical demonstration of how residents respond to flood early warnings.

The activity showcased real action in motion 💪🏽—from residents setting up flood barriers 🧱🌊 to pupils actively engaging with disaster preparedness IEC materials 📚🛑, alongside broader community efforts to keep the environment safe and resilient.

📸 These moments were captured as part of a photo series being developed by the DARAJA funders, highlighting how early warning information translates into timely, life-saving protective action.

The message was clear: early warnings save lives only when communities act on them 🚨➡️🏡

🌱 Learning Exchange at St. Kizito Secondary School 🌍

We recently held an inspiring Learning Exchange at St. Kizito Primary School, bringing together project groups from Mbarara and Kampala to share knowledge and practical skills in Urban Farming and Waste-to-Value Management initiatives.

Participants explored a variety of innovative, student-led and community-driven activities at the school, including:
🍄 Mushroom growing
🐟 Fish farming
💧 Hydroponics
🧴 Value addition practices
🧼 Liquid and bar soap making
🐛 Black soldier fly rearing
♻️ Recycling initiatives
🐔 Chicken rearing
🔥 Briquettes making

The exchange offered a hands-on learning experience, enabling groups to share ideas, discover sustainable solutions, and gain inspiration to replicate and scale these initiatives within their own communities.

Through such learning exchanges, we continue to empower groups to become centers of sustainability, innovation, and environmental stewardship. 🌿✨
