Bruno takes you on a walkabout so you can see the incredible progress being made on the One Acre Farm. Unfortunately the rains are yet to come so the ground is parched and we lost all of our bean crop. This highlights the importance of getting the farm up and running as the bigger vision includes building a crop irrigation system where we can pump water from the river and disperse it through a gravity fed system which will keep our crops well hydrated and stop such events happening so frequently in the future.

Meet Nasasira!

For those who have visited the project you will of likely met his brother Michael who is a fantastic asset to the project with a can do attitude and incredible knowledge of all things technical.

Nasasira is following in his brothers footsteps and has been working side by side with the building team as they strive to complete our new pig buildings.

Nasasira has been working particularly hard and has been saving up his earnings towards his dream to begin a degree programme in Hospitality and Tourism.

I know it’s a big ask but we are looking for a sponsor for Nasasira so he can begin his learning journey at university.

It’s been an incredibly busy few months at the project where we have been focusing all efforts to make an ambitious start to our vocational campus at The Kafunjo Green School site. Thanks to some incredible support we have made MAJOR progress to our one acre farm which will become an outdoor training facility teaching regenerative farming for the children who attend the Green school when its doors finally open next year.

The purpose of the vocational campus is several fold. The Kafunjo Green School will teach “skills for life” to the children who have completed primary and choose to pursue a more practical route on their educational journey where they will learn how to farm in a sustainable way to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to carve out their own futures later in life. In addition we may include hospitality and tourism and music and other creative arts studies.

With the money generated from the farm we can support the wider goals of the Kafunjo Community Foundation, covering teacher salaries and food costs so the benefits strengthen the project as a whole.

I’m going to be heading out to the project in October to continue progress on the farm and Green School and to figure out what the next steps are to get this massive project up and running next year. I’m looking for some of our supporters to join me.

For those wondering what happened to my slightly mad idea of cycling a Brompton across West Africa to raise funds for Kafunjo…

I’m still going!

After leaving Dakar, Senegal a couple months ago, I have cycled through Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia and have now reached Ivory Coast. With around a week remaining, the finish line for this stage of Kafunjo Overland by Brompton is finally in sight.

I’ve been very quiet on the Kafunjo page throughout the expedition, posting most updates to friends and family, but now that I’m on the finishing straight I thought it was time to invite Kafunjo supporters to follow the final chapter.

This journey is completely self-funded. Every visa, meal, flight, repair and kilometre ridden has been paid for personally. That means 100% of donations go directly to supporting the Kafunjo Community Project.

Even better, every pound donated is currently doubled by our fundraising partners.

So far we’ve raised £7,550 which means more than £15,000 will be invested directly into the project.

When I reach Abidjan, I’ll fly straight to Uganda with the funds to help complete the Kafunjo Green School, expand the One Acre Farm, purchase food for the children, support staff salaries and continue building a project that is both financially and environmentally sustainable for years to come.

Every £10 becomes £20.
Every £50 becomes £100.
Every donation helps us build something lasting.

Howdy folks! Here is the heartfelt thank you video for everyone who has supported Kafunjo Overland (by Brompton) so far!!!

For those who don’t know me - I’ve been working closely with Bruno since the project began in 2013 and have witnessed firsthand what a massive difference the project has made to so many lives!

I’m presently attempting to cycle my Brompton folding bike to Kafunjo to raise support for Bruno’s mission. So far the cycle (which began in Tangier, Morocco) has raised over £17,000. I’m presently in Ziguinchor in southern Senegal but forging onwards tomorrow in the general direction of Uganda.

I’ll be enduring the up and coming rainy season in Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sieraal Leone, Liberia and hope to complete this leg of the trip on Abidjan in Ivory Coast.

In July I return to the the project where I’ll be working alongside Bruno and the team to spend the donations raised on improving the lives of the children of Kafunjo while setting up some income generating initiatives to help the project become more financially self sufficient.

I received some incredible news this morning I’d love to share with you but you’ll have to watch the video to find out!

Kafunjo Overland by Brompton is a multi-stage cycling expedition across Africa with one simple purpose: to raise funds, awareness, and long-term support for the Kafunjo Community Project.

The mission is to prove that fundraising doesn’t have to be boring.

Starting in Tangier, Morocco, and ultimately finishing at Kafunjo in Uganda, the journey crosses deserts, coastlines, forests, and borders - stage by stage, country by country - powered by a Brompton bike, determination, and the belief that small actions can create big change.

So far the journey has crossed Morocco and the Sahara to Dakar, Senegal, raising around £12,000 - money that helped complete the physical build of the Kafunjo Green School.

The next stage runs from Dakar through Senegal and onwards into West Africa, heading ultimately toward Abidjan, Ivory Coast, as the journey continues east.

Every mile ridden helps support the work at Kafunjo: education, orphan support, vocational training, regenerative farming, and building opportunities for children and young people in rural Uganda.

This isn’t just about cycling.

It’s about adventure with purpose.
Movement with meaning.
And proving that possibility is stronger than poverty.
