Pay Zakat, Give Hope. Pay Zakat, Get Purified The establishment of such an organization is a responsibility of a Muslim state.

In a non-Muslim state the responsibility lies on the shoulders of a Muslim. If the leadership fails to fulfill its responsibility because of weakness or lack of credibility, then every Muslim who has the capacity is deemed responsible.

Drop a Coin, Educate a Child

The House of Zakat and Waqf Uganda (HoZWU) visited Janan Schools – Primary and Secondary to launch the “Drop a Coin, Educate a Child” donation box initiative.

HoZWU was represented by Sheikh Yahaya Kalungi, Head of Education & Daawa, accompanied by Haji Nyanzi, Head of Waqf, and Mr. Kimbugwe.

The programme aims to instil a culture of giving among young people, reduce school dropout by supporting children from disadvantaged households, and nurture a generation committed to social responsibility.

Students are encouraged to contribute as little as UGX 100–500. Small contributions, when combined, can help keep a child in school and transform a future.

Courtesy Visit & Strengthening International Partnerships

House of Zakat and Waqf Uganda (HoZWU) had the pleasure of receiving Dr. Saim and Dr. Yilmaz, Turkish brothers engaged in humanitarian and academic activities in Uganda.

The delegation was hosted by the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Sheikh Abdu Obeid Kamulegeya, and the CEO, Dr. Namungo Hamzah.

The discussions explored opportunities to strengthen linkages between HoZWU and the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Uganda, Diyanet, and other charitable and humanitarian organisations in Türkiye.

The engagement highlighted the importance of building meaningful partnerships that can contribute to advancing zakat, waqf, humanitarian assistance, education, and community development in Uganda

When giving becomes easier, more people can give.

Along with other Faith-Based Organisations, HoZWU was hosted by MTN MoMo at the launch of the dedicated Faith-Based Organisations code, *165*11 # — making giving simpler, faster and more convenient.

For Zakat and Sadaqa, this is more than a new code. It removes barriers to giving, making it easier for Muslims to fulfil their Zakat obligations, give Sadaqa and contribute to a stronger culture of generosity.

At HoZWU, we welcome innovations that make Zakat easier to give, easier to manage and more accountable.

On 12 August 2026, our CEO, Dr. Namungo Hamzah, represented House of Zakat and Waqf Uganda (HoZWU) at the IsDB–Sokoto State Zakat and Waqf Commission Workshop in Sokoto, Nigeria.

He delivered his second presentation on “Zakat and Waqf Success Stories in Uganda and Possible Lessons for Other Countries,” sharing Uganda’s experience and practical lessons in Islamic social finance.

We were honoured to join resource persons from Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia and Uganda in this important exchange of knowledge and experience.

Courtesy Visit to the Sultan of Sokoto

On the sidelines of the Capacity Building Workshop, the House of Zakat and Waqf Uganda (HoZWU) team and other international speakers paid a courtesy visit to His Eminence, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, Sultan of Sokoto, at the Palace.

The Sultan, who is familiar with Uganda and has visited the country before, received us warmly. We also reflected on HoZWU’s 2022 Lodonga, Yumbe project, officiated by Eng. Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, Chairman of the Sokoto Zakat and Waqf Commission.

Strengthening Zakat & Waqf Capacity Across Borders 🌍

Our Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Namungo Hamzah, and Head of Mobilization, Sheikh Yahaya Kalungi, have safely arrived in Sokoto State, Nigeria, as part of the facilitation team for the Islamic Development Bank supported capacity-building programme for the Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Commission.

The programme brings together staff and key stakeholders from more than nine countries, providing an important platform for knowledge exchange, institutional strengthening, and sharing best practices in Zakat and Islamic social finance.

It was also a pleasure to meet Prof. Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik from IPB University, Indonesia 🇮🇩, a renowned expert in Islamic Economics and Islamic Social Finance.

We look forward to meaningful engagements, learning, and contributing to the advancement of effective Zakat and Waqf institutions across the Muslim world.
