A Ugandan Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) that integrates rugby and Life Skills to equip girls and young women in Uganda to tackle life off the pitch.
Rugby Tackling Life (RTL) is an organisation that was intially registered as a Community Based Organisation (CBO) that was registered in October 2016 before registering as an NGO in 2018. RTL is not just about the rugby - we use rugby as a tool for social change. We strive to educate our players and impart life skills to them so that they can comfortably navigate life off the rugby pitch.

The third and final match day of the RTL Community 15s will be at Lagot Cugu Primary School in Mucwini, Kitgum District.
The theme is "Rugby for Change, End Child Marriage and Teenage Pregnancies".
There will be Life Skills sessions and we will partner with Mucwini Health Centre III for the medical and SRHR outreaches.

RTLs "Back to School" Outreach on Saturday wound up with 100 student players (primary school, secondary school and vocational studies) from Njeru rugby club , Panthers Rugby Club , Black Pearls Rugby Club and RTL Lakalatwer receiving scholastic materials to help them be adequately prepared to report back to school when Term 1 starts in February.

Black Pearls Rugby Club versus Panthers Rugby Club was the main game of the day, and it followed the Life Skills and programmes and the men's friendly match between Sailors and Njeru Hurricanes.
Black Pearls won the friendly fixture 57-06.

After the Life Skills and programmes were done, Sailors hosted Njeru Hurricanes in a 15 aside curtain raiser to the main match of the day, Black Pearls Rugby Club versus Panthers Rugby Club .

A 30 minute session for the Panthers Rugby Club and Black Pearls Rugby Club forwards on scrummaging, with an emphasis on the tight 5, was held by Victor Wadia, a former Uganda Rugby Cranes international player and the current head coach for Panthers. This equipped the players with the correct technique such that they can scrummage safely during matches.

In the Rugby 10s action under Black Pearls' programme, the under 14 boys' teams, Black Emeralds and Obiri (Kobs) played each other twice and win one game each. In the under 18 girls' games, Black Diamonds secured victories over Njeru Tornadoes and Baby Panthers, while Tornadoes beat Baby Panthers and lost to Opals.

Yesterday morning's interactive Life Skills sessions were run by Emilly Lekuru, Susan Nambozo, Fionah Karungi and Stephen Alul "Buju" with players from Black Pearls Rugby Club , Panthers Rugby Club , Njeru rugby club and RTL Lakalatwer.
Emilly, Susan, and Fionah are Black Pearls players, while Stephen is a Black Pirates player. All 4 drew on their personal life experiences to talk about balancing rugby with school/work, growth and development on and off the rugby field, discipline, platonic and romantic relationships etc.
The younger players also had a Life Skills session run by Anne Alan Sizomu on staying in school, discipline, respect for each other and positive relationships, personal care and health, how to navigate challenges at home, school and rugby, who to talk to and how to seek for help.

RTL is holding a "Back to School" Outreach tomorrow at Kingspark Arena in Bweyogerere. On the programme we have;
•Life Skills sessions in the morning for pre-teen, teen and adult players from Black Pearls Rugby Club , Panthers Rugby Club , Njeru rugby club , and RTL Lakalatwer (from Kitgum District).
•Age grade 7s games under the Black Pearls Academy "Tackle Tomorrow" programme
•15s friendly matches

Rugby Tackling Life (RTL) was formed to offer an alternative option to Ugandan girls and young women on how to approach the daily challenges in their lives as well as explore their sporting talent through rugby. RTL was registered as a Ugandan Community Based Organisation (CBO) in October 2016 and was then registered as a Ugandan Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) in February 2018. RTL is not just about rugby, we strive to educate our players and impart life skills to them so that they can comfortably navigate life off the rugby pitch. RTLs reach has so far been in Apac, Alebtong, Arua, Busia, Gulu, Jinja, Kampala, Kamuli, Kitgum, Lira, Oyam, Pakwach and Wakiso.

Goals
· To integrate rugby with Life Skills, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and Menstrual Hygiene Management to empower girls and young women in Uganda
· To spread the game of rugby to all regions of Uganda
· Through rugby, to offer opportunities to girls and young women to transform their lives and their communities
· To enrich girls’ and young women’s welfare, to expand their knowledge of possibilities and choices in order to develop holistic individuals
· To ensure that girls and young women achieve their full potential both on and off the rugby pitch
· To encourage girls to complete their education and to enable more access to academic and vocational study opportunities
