Hospice Africa Uganda

Hospice Africa Uganda HOSPICE AFRICA UGANDA (HAU) is an NGO founded in 1993 with a vision of Palliative Care reaching all in Africa.

HOSPICE AFRICA (HA) was inspired by witnessing the terrible suffering of those people with cancer sent home to die without support, in Nairobi in 1990-2.. Palliative care from Nairobi Hospice could support these patients and allow them to dies without pain and at peace with their families and their God. But this was a problem throughout Sub Saharan Africa, not just Nairobi. Thus HA was founded for

palliative care provision in Africa. This service was to be based on a model in an African country and Uganda was chosen for the model in 1993. Hospice Africa Uganda is now the model for service, education, research and promoting excellent but affordable clinical care appropriate to the cultures in Africa. Hospice Africa (HA (UK)) was registered in UK in 1993 as Hospice Africa (UK). Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU) was registered in Uganda in 1994. HOSPICE AFRICA UGANDA: is the Model Hospice for Hospice Africa, locally referred to as Hospice Uganda.

Faith. Sacrifice. Compassion.

On this Martyrs’ Day, we join Ugandans and pilgrims from around the world in honouring the courage, conviction, and unwavering faith of the Uganda Martyrs.

Their legacy reminds us that true greatness is found in selfless service, resilience, and standing firm for what we believe in.

As we commemorate this special day, may we all be inspired to serve others with love, kindness, and purpose.

Happy Martyrs’ Day.

RN’s Journey of Strength and Hope

At 62 years old, RN has faced more battles than many can imagine. Living in Mukono with her granddaughter, RN has endured HIV, survived a stroke, and now continues her fight against Parkinson’s disease. Yet through it all, her spirit remains remarkably strong.

Since receiving support from Hospice Africa Uganda, RN says her life has greatly improved. With access to food support and medication, she has regained her appetite, found renewed strength, and is now able to be a little more active each day, a sign that the pain relief and care she receives are making a meaningful difference.

“I am very grateful for the help HAU has given me,” RN shares with a smile. “The medicine gives me strength and helps ease the pain.”

RN’s story is a powerful reminder that palliative care goes beyond treatment, it restores dignity, comfort, and hope. Through continued support, patients like RN are able to live with greater comfort and feel that they are not alone in their journey.
