From Despair to Hope, NM’s Journey
At just 43 years old, NM, a mother from Mukono, was facing one of the darkest moments of her life.
Diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she joined the Hospice Africa Uganda programme in March 2026 after enduring severe pain, persistent difficulty in breathing, and overwhelming emotional distress. The weight of her diagnosis had been made even heavier by the words of a previous doctor who, after chemotherapy failed to bring improvement, told her to simply wait for her time to die.
Those words shattered her hope.
When NM came to HAU, she was not only battling physical pain but also the fear and uncertainty that had consumed her spirit. Our team stepped in to provide holistic palliative care, addressing both her physical symptoms and emotional well-being.
Just two months later, NM's story has taken a different turn.
Her pain is now well managed. She is breathing more comfortably, growing stronger each day, and beginning to reclaim hope for the future. While her journey continues, she no longer walks it alone. She is surrounded by compassionate care that reminds her that every life deserves dignity, comfort, and support.
