2.6 million Children are homeless in the world....
OUR STORY BEGINS in Rural Uganda…. Daily, the media pours out stories of sick children, orphans running the streets, and desperate families trying to make a living. Sadly….much of the public has become numb to these stories and it’s easier just look the other way. With our own eyes here in Kampala, Uganda, see those of suffer and wait for a helpi
ng hand. We see the innocent call for help and no one hears. We see the widow reach out, and no one is there. Thus, we have started the Zion Children’s Orphanage in the name of those who call for a helping hand. We care for orphaned children, provide medical resources, help to support suffering families, provide education and expose the reality of these grim circumstances to the world. If we want to make change for the future generations, we must pave a way for education. This became clear to me with the story of my cousin.....
My cousin was thrilled to learn he had been sponsored by the World Wide organization. They offered to help with scholastic materials. He dreamed of becoming and educated man, to choose a profession and help his family. What he didn’t know, however, is that their program had a life span of only three years. When the education abruptly came to a halt, my cousin was devastated that he had not yet graduated and was left without any support. This had a negative effect on his moral, his attitude and what’s worse- his hope. His guardian did not have the means to pay for the scholastic material. There was no other means to buy the material, thus bringing an end to my cousins’ education. It's hard to understand why the people who were supporting my cousin and many other poor children within our area would close their offices and go to another location-abruptly and heartlessly. After starting my secondary school, I started volunteering in a local CBO under a church (Community Based Organization) in our area. Working with this Charity organization arose the Humanity in me. It was there that I understood that most organizations and projects only have a lifespan of two to three years. I vowed that when I will start my own organization, I will make my results be felt more on a grassroots presence, where I will help OVC
(Orphans and Vulnerable Children ) not just for a specific period, but will endeavor to support them till they can stand on their own feet. Much of our inspiration comes from Jesus’s teaching in the Gospels of the New Testament and the way he treated those around him. He says in Matthew 5:
“BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT,
FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN,
FOR THEY WILL BE COMFORTED. BLESSED ARE THE MEEK,
FOR THEY WILL INHERIT THE EARTH. BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS,
FOR THEY WILL BE FILLED. BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL,
FOR THEY WILL BE SHOWN MERCY. BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART,
FOR THEY WILL SEE GOD. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS,
FOR THEY WILL BE CALLED CHILDREN OF GOD. BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO ARE PERSECUTED BECAUSE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,
FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.”
We can see Jesus’s heart and in the scriptures and here at The Zion Children’s Orphanage, we take up this same heart.
