Let’s Talk: Social Media & Our Children

We live in a digital world where our children are just a click away from both opportunity and danger.

As parents and caregivers, how do we keep them safe without cutting them off from the good that technology brings?
At Shine For Change , we’re starting conversations about social media, its benefits, its risks, and practical ways parents can monitor, guide, and protect their children online.

What’s your biggest challenge when it comes to your child and social media? Let’s talk about it.

Bridging the Digital Divide, One School at a Time!

Today was a truly eye-opening day as we held a Digital Literacy session at a primary school in Eastern Ugandq.

Can you imagine that these bright young boys and girls had never touched or interacted with a computer before?

Despite the school owning no computers or offering any computer lessons, the students eagerly engaged with technology for the first time.

By the end of the session, they were not only typing but asking how much a computer costs and dreaming about careers in tech!

We at Shine for Change believe that every child deserves access to the tools and skills of the future. These students have so much potential, and we want to keep that spark alive!

With your support, we can bring more resources to schools like this and empower the next generation of tech leaders. Together, we can ensure that no child is left behind in this digital age.

Help us provide computers and digital literacy training to schools in need.

Your contribution can change the course of a child's future!

Empowering Women through Digital Inclusion in Kasese

We had the opportunity to engage with a group of women in Kasese as part of our commitment to fostering economic independence and inclusion.

These women, many of whom operate within the informal sector, face challenges in accessing opportunities for growth and overcoming poverty barriers.

Through Shine for Change, we introduced digital tools and information that empower them to access vital information without requiring an internet connection—such as weather forecasts and agricultural tips.

With these resources, they can make informed decisions for their farms and businesses, ensuring better yields and sustainability.

Looking ahead, we plan to support them in marketing their products more easily through accessible digital platforms. We're proud to contribute to their journey toward economic growth and resilience.

Do You Think They Should Have Email Addresses?

Recently, while visiting communities in Luwero, we met these bright young girls. We handed them a computer, curious to see what they could do. Instantly, they gathered around, and one of them began typing a letter to her best friend, sharing their holiday experiences.

Her next question struck us deeply: "How can I send my letter if we don’t have email addresses?"
That got us thinking...

Should children have email addresses? What age group would be appropriate? How would that impact their future?

We see the opportunities that staying connected can bring: from accessing educational resources to learning how to communicate in the digital world. Having an email address might seem like a small step, but it could be a powerful gateway to greater digital inclusion.

But is it practical? Should digital literacy begin with something as simple as setting up an email account?

How would we ensure safety and responsible use?
We'd love to hear your thoughts!
At Shine for Change, we believe in equipping children and communities with the digital skills they need to thrive.

But we want to hear from you, how can we make this possible in a safe and meaningful way?
