Trace Uganda

Trace Uganda Working to empower disadvantaged slum and street children in Kampala, Uganda. All these problems are aggravated by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Trace Uganda works extensively with street children and vulnerable children in the slums of the capital of Uganda. These children have left for the streets for a number of different reason: poverty, abuse, being orphaned, war and famine. Many come to Kampala in search of work and other opportunities but find themselves in dire straits when they arrive. On the streets, these children face a great m

any difficulties including sleep deprivation (from lack of good shelter for sleeping), malnutrition, disease/infection, physical, sexual and mental abuse as well as a marked decrease in their self-esteem caused by the internalization of societal disapproval. Many of the children take up drinking alcohol or using drugs to help them deal with the harsh realities of street life. At Trace Uganda, we first and foremost provide the children with a place to sleep and food to eat. These children can also seek assistance for any medical/dental problems they might be having. After a child has proved themselves committed to leaving street life, he/she will be sent to school. Going to school is one of the most important things to these children. Many left home after being withdrawn from school by their parents. Children are often viewed as incomplete people, without any ideas of their own. We recognize that children are individuals with their own desires and aspirations. They should be given the opportunity to realize their dreams and live a happy life.

There was a time when Ronald’s voice was lost in the city's noise, unheard by those passing by. But the streets didn't break him; they only steeled his resolve. Through the unwavering grace of Trace Uganda, a boy who once struggled for survival found his way to a classroom.
With his UMCAT Journalism diploma in hand, the boy who used to watch the world from the shadows is stepping into the spotlight. When he sits down with NTV, he won't just be narrating a biography; he will be reclaiming his dignity. It is a full-circle moment—from surviving the news of the streets to reporting the news of the world.
