True justice isn’t just about what happens inside a courtroom, it is about how we protect human dignity where it is most vulnerable.
In commemoration of Menstrual Health Month, the Centre for Women Justice Uganda (CWJU) stepped inside Luzira Women's Prison. We stood in solidarity with women in custody, hosting an essential sensitization session focused on menstrual hygiene management and access to justice.
For incarcerated women, health and justice are deeply intertwined. A barrier to menstrual health is a violation of dignity, and a violation of dignity is a human rights issue. By creating a safe, judgment-free space, we empowered these resilient women with the knowledge to manage their health properly and navigate the legal pathways available to them. Every woman regardless of her circumstances deserves fair treatment, legal representation, and the right to seek redress.
This engagement provided our team with vital insights that will strengthen our ongoing advocacy for a truly gender responsive justice system. We are incredibly grateful for our strong partnership with government structures, allowing us to work collaboratively to ensure that access to justice is a reality for all women and girls.
Together, we are breaking barriers and building a world rooted in dignity, equality, and health justice.
