40 Days Over 40 Smiles Foundation (40-40) is a Kampala based independent, youth-led, charity organisation. We are committed to helping vulnerable children and communities to access quality, all-round education support and entrepreneurial training aimed at self-sustainability. Our model greatly hinges on the use of social media as a platform for raising awareness on pertinent issues in our community and subsequently find solutions. We also use fun-social events to inspire a socially-conscious movement of youths who contribute to our cause. The idea is for youths to take responsibility for social-economic change within their communities.

Injuries do not wait for the right time. Emergencies do not send a warning.🚨

Last week at the Angaza Resource Center, the children had a First Aid training with Malik Katerega and Scovia Atim from Uganda Red Cross Society as part of our Holiday Programme.

They learnt what to do when injuries and emergencies happen, because these are things children can encounter every day, at home, at school, on the playground or simply while being children. From burns and choking to fractures, electric shocks and caring for a casualty, They practiced and got to experience what responding in an emergency can look like.

A big thank you to Malik & Scovia for spending the day with us and equipping the children with a skill they can carry wherever they go. Asante.👏🏼

As part of our Holiday Programme, we welcomed a team of four young professionals from KII Impact: Marvin Kugonza, Marvin Ategeka, Billy Mulegenzi and Irankunda Pacific, together with their team leader, Abid Businge, for a practical financial literacy session with our teenagers and young adults.

The session introduced participants to basic financial concepts through Pesa Smart games, an interactive card game that made learning about money practical, engaging, and fun. Through the game, the young people explored the importance of insurance, thinking carefully about financial choices, and being cautious and informed when dealing with banks and other financial institutions.

The session was a great reminder that financial literacy is an important life skill, particularly for young people beginning to make independent decisions about money.
Rather than sitting through a conventional lecture about finances, the young people learnt by playing, making choices, weighing consequences and discussing the outcomes. And they thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thank you, Kii Impact for joining us in equipping the next generation with skills that will serve them long after the Holiday Programme ends.

When childhood has to wait 🥺

Our Holiday Programme for Teenagers resumed last week, but some of our usual suspects haven’t been attending consistently. When we checked in, they told us they have to work. 💃🏽🥺

It made us pause and sit with the reality of what that means. For some teenagers, childhood isn’t something they get to experience freely, it has to make room for survival.

And that means missing sessions, friendships, play, learning, and the simple joy of just being young.

It was tough to think about how many of them are having to pause parts of their childhood because they need to earn a living. 🥺

So, we’re approaching this programme with a deeper understanding of their realities, with more empathy, flexibility and intentionality.

The Boundless Corps Entrepreneurship Cohort is a 6-week hybrid programme offering practical entrepreneurship training, guidance, and support to help participants develop their business ideas and strengthen their entrepreneurial skills.

Who is eligible?
• Aged 18–25
• Willing and able to commit to the full 6-week programme
• Open to participants beyond Kampala since the programme is hybrid
